Would give 0 stars if I could. I read the reviews before coming here and thought, she can't be THAT bad... but she was actually so much worse than I thought.
I was going on a trip to Europe and had ordered a dress months in advance which unfortunately had taken really long to get to me.. I got it and it was too long, so I frantically tried to find somewhere to hem it (I would need it within 3-4 days - I know, not the most ideal but not unreasonable). This place had more or less decent reviews and was close so I thought, perfect.
I went in being extra friendly, knowing she could be rude from the reviews, and right off the bat I got horrible vibes and felt really anxious like I was doing something wrong. I put the dress on and put my air force 1 nikes on (cause I was thinking I'd want to sometimes where the dress with these runners and sometimes heels). Unfortunately I didn't have heels with me at the time so I used ones that she had there. At this point she had already been giving me crap for not bringing heels. She started asking me questions, some of them I didn't know the answer to, and acting really frustrated with me and honestly INCREDIBLY rude and saying rude thoughts out loud. I wish I could specifically remember what she said but I absolutely remember how I felt....
When it came time to go to the counter, I told her I needed it within 3-4 days (which honestly I thought was kind of normal - back where I'm from in Vancouver, I used to get stuff hemmed no problem within 2-3 days), and she threw her head back angrily and started talking about how she's over worked and gets no breaks and people like me come in with demands, etc... then she quoted me the price.... $80 for the most basic simple hem.. I was shocked. I told her I needed to call my mom (cause at that time, I wasn't sure what a ball park price was for hemming and she gets things hemmed often). My mom was also shocked and told me she normally pays $25-30 CANADIAN.. which is what I had expected it to be about. I was like, you know what this isn't worth it... the whole dress was only $50. Especially after how she acted towards me, I didn't want to give her any money. I went back and told her I was going to leave it and she freaked out again and was like "AHHH I KNEW YOU WERE GONNA DO THAT BLAH BLAH BLAH" followed by more and more rudeness obviously...
I honestly can't believe the experience I had in the 10-15 minutes I was there. I can confidently say it was the worst customer service I've ever had. How this woman has any business at all and why people even go here and pay those astronomical fees just to deal with her horrible attitude is beyond me.
The "culture" excuse is also ridiculous. There's no excuse for that kind of treatment to your customers. If she works so hard and is so stretched for time, hire people to help. That's what businesses do. Don't take it out on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreShe's rude AF. The review excusing her rudeness because it's her "culture" and that she's just "direct" is stupid.
I'm getting married in a few months and I went to her shop because I needed measurements for a suit I'm ordering, and I needed a place to get the alterations done once it comes in. I expected to pay for the measurements.
I walked in and very politely asked if I could pay to get measured for a suit. She ROLLED HER EYES and HUFFED while sitting at her sewing machine. She immediately says that she doesn't want to bother. So she marches up to me and starts lecturing me on what a waste of time it is and how I would need alterations anyway once it came in. Yeah, but I can't just pull a suit off a rack and try it on, I'm ORDERING IT.
I literally had to beg to get her to take the measurements. I had a sheet with the required measurements (Neck, Shoulder, Sleeve, etc) which I show to her and she angrily gets her measuring tape out. I understand quick measurements after many years of this work, but she wasn't trying at all. Apparently some of the required measurements were unique to the company I'm ordering from because she just complained the whole time about "How am I supposed to know what this is?!" Seriously? It's SLEEVE LENGTH. COLLAR. WAIST. THIGH. If you're not sure, just politely ask me, don't be awful. You're the expert! You're supposed to be the one to help guide people through!
She literally messed up the easiest measurements because she was going too fast, bitched too much, and just didn't care.
I went to TWO other tailors the next day because I was so scared of bad measurements AND had my fiance measure me at home (Who had to follow an online guide). How bad were Luba's measurements?
THIS BAD:
Luba: Chest 37, Waist 36, Shoulder 22, etc and half not filled out. The other 2 Tailors and Fiance: Chest 42, Waist 33, Shoulders 20 etc
CONCLUSION: I was treated like trash. She didn't care and she claims she's done this job for 40 years. No, you've been an awful person for 40 years. I'm already stressed out from wedding planning, and I needed HELP. There is NO way I will ever come back to this shop and I'm telling everyone at my 300 person wedding to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLuba has been in that shop longer than I have been alive, actually. Her prices seem to fluctuate without rhyme or reason but I donāt mind paying for quality work from a local businesswoman. Her work is fantasticā I am constantly complimented on how great my suits look on me and there really is no greater feeling than stepping into a custom tailored suit.
I have been fortunate to have had Luna help me in a pinch where sheās been able to do a significant amount of alterations in a matter of a few days however you should absolutely plan as far ahead as possible as she is a one woman show and when sheās busy, it could be a few weeks before sheās finished.
My most recent visit, I had a jacket taken in a significant amount and had my trousers hemmed and had buttons sewn in for suspenders. I paid $248 for 1 suit to be altered. I realize this is more than a lot of suits are off the rack but it was 1/4 the price of what I paid for the suit and was money well spent. That suit will fit me for a lifetime.
Take the time to get to know herā she can come across a bit harsh but if you talk to her a bit she is an absolute delight. Ask her about...
