My friends and I absolutely love this place. It is truly a gem. We are all hard-working young-ish professionals and typically gather here for happy hour after work, or to grab some drinks and food before heading downtown on the light rail. You can get way better food and drink here for the price, than at any of the stadiums or venues downtown.
Surprisingly to everyone I bring or recommend, the burgers are phenomenal. I get the classic Norm Burger with a side of the caramelized onion bisque and I am a happy super camper. If you are nice, they will serve it outside of lunch hours. Others usually go for the One Barrel Burger and rave about it, but I am all about the classic. Don't sleep on the lunch Barrel Hodgepodge if your there at lunch time. I sometimes go with the 1/2 Norm Burger and 1/2 Italian, if it's too warm for the bisque.
I don't think I have had an appetizer that wasn't absolutely awesome. The Calamari, Korean Pork Bites, and the Stuffed Piquillo Peppers are our favorites. I get yelled at frequently for eating more than my fair share. We often just load the table with appetizers and carafes when we meet up there.
We almost always just split carafes of the house wine unless we're craving a good cocktail. If you can find a better value for a good carafe, you let me know... but I doubt you can. I am not overly well-versed in wine, but know my way around a menu well enough to have enjoyed some great ones there.
Outside of casual get togethers with friends, my fiancé and I have also come here for dinner to enjoy a more romantic and higher quality dining experience, without the pretentiousness or cost.
Lastly, the staff, especially Jaimie, are just darn good humans. Though I don't frequent as often as I did when I worked down the street, she still always says hi. Thank you for providing a place with great atmosphere, food, and wine where we can spend genuine time...
Read moreI went here on a rare date night (we have young kids) and were really looking forward to the evening.
I give the experience two stars because of two things, the service and the food. Our server was quite rude to both of us. She would walk away when I was in the middle of speaking and it was pretty apparent she was trying to turn our table quickly. Her demeanor as a whole felt like it held a shade of animosity for some reason. The support staff was really great however and helped make our time there enjoyable despite this
The food was below average, in both quantity and quality. I can certainly trade off one or the other, but not both and especially not at these prices. I had the Chicken Schnitzel. Though they dressed it up nicely, it was only half a chicken breast on a scoop of sauerkraut. For $20+ I expected at least a side with it. The sauce they used was some sort of raspberry jelly, tasting exactly like the red jelly donut fillings, aftertaste and all. Paired with the chicken it was a horrible combo of tastes. It just was not very good. I feel like I would be a little easier going on the food dish rating if they had a larger selection as well, but her food didn't look very good either and she didn't like the sauce in hers either. That's two out of seven entrees that are a bust.
As far as the good goes, you can tell who the manager or owner is because she was very friendly and attentive. Their artichoke dip was really delicious and they have a very nice selection of wine. Though it did get extremely loud towards the end of our meal, the atmosphere was quite nice considering it's location.
I certainly recommend for happy hour and drinks, but definitely can't recommend it as a dining...
Read moreCame here tonight on a random evening looking for a good meal. Walked in and was informed about the menu being on the web only and thought to myself that is a pleasant surprise. I am all for saving the earth and not wasting paper. After looking at the menu I decided to give this place a try and boy am I glad I did. I sat at the bar and again was pleasently surprised to learn that they had Hendrik's Gin. I'm not a drinker but when I do, I enjoy a good non juniper flavored gin and Hendricks always hits the spot. From there I ordered the Tuna Carpatio and the Chicken Tagliatelli. The tuna was a very adaquate proportion and the flavors were exceptional. From the attention to balance of ingredience, to presentation to tasty toasted crustini everything we spot on and the tuna was fresh. The Chicken Tagliatelli was full of flavor that danced along my palette. The home made pasta was not too thick, the artickokes were perfectly cooked, the balance of tomatoes spinach and sauce were excellent. The ambiance was quaint and personable and the staff was how I like my service personally. Not pushy or overbearing, yet attentive and available when I wanted. Tanner was an exceptional bar tender that again wasnt pushy or overbearing but very attentive. The staff clearly takes pride in this establishment and they should cause this is a gem in a miariad of restaurants in Colorado. If you are in the area, or have means to make it here, this is a must visit destination Colorado for any foodie. When you don't mind spending a bit of money on good food that is well with it, this...
