I started shopping here since the pandemic started, and I've been satisfied overall. I buy mostly produce, and I find that the prices are higher overall than Whole Foods (by a lot, in fact). Also, Nature's Basket is just far inferior to other home brands like 365, Simple Truth Organic, or Wild Harvest. However, the store does at least try to be relevant by carrying a wide selection of products, albeit expensive. The packaged bulk section needs dramatic revamping. The price per lb. is outrageous considering much of it is not even organic. Also, the expiry dates appear to be good, but once you open some of those containers, the products are not fresh. For instance, I have purchased several containers of rancid nuts. The staff I have interacted with in specific departments (especially seafood) are amazingly helpful. Bakery department and the prepared hot food people are also lovely. However, I have had some unpleasant experiences with the customer service desk and a handful of staff members who monitor the self-checkout area. Very nasty indeed. I am deducting a star. And lastly, my compliments to this store for consistently maintaining a dedicated staff member to sanitize the carts. This is definitely the only store I frequent that has kept up with this practice of sanitizing carts (it's April 2021 now - more than a year), while other stores pretended to care early on in the pandemic (e.g., Mustard Seed Market across the street). I would add a star back for their cart sanitizing protocol, but unfortunately, the staff members I mentioned previously were just...
Read moreGiant Eagle is one of the bigger supermarkets. I actually give this store there and a half stars because I believe it is above average. They do what they can to keep things clean and provide a good safe place to buy food. That's why I can't give more than three and a half stars. While Giant Eagle has many programs and weekly and daily sales, there are places to shop were there are better values on certain items. As for myself I spend most of my shopping there mainly because I am too lazy to look for the best deal possible. As far as customer service aspect the same rules applies. Giant Eagle does a really good job to make sure the place stays clean, shelves stocked (as best as possible given the current situation) and when you need help there seems to be someone always around to help out. One place they fall very short is at the cash registers. In the self check out lane I think there should be someone stationed there permanently. Regularly when we need help checking out the light will come on and no one is around and it holds up the line. Maybe it is only a few minutes but in other places the help comes almost instantly. Another thing is given our current situation there should be more than 3 cash registers open. Again, I do and will continue to do my shopping there and even given these few suggestions they still get put among the top three. Nevertheless be your own judge and stop in, grab something to eat...
Read moreNot particularly fond of this location. I rarely shop here and when I do it's only because I'm in the area for other reasons. So, it's pretty much in, buy an item I need, then right back out. Besides dairy, I never buy fresh foods from here.
The store has a wide selection of items to choose from. A large frozen foods and dairy department. You can't go wrong here. The problem is with the produce. I have never been able to find nice fresh vegetables. On top of that, the produce is ridiculously overpriced for the quality. The romaine is always blemished with spoiled spots and looks like something you would find in a discount grocery store. Even when the lettuce appears fresh, it does not keep well in the refrigerator for a reasonable period of time. A complete waste of money.
This location markets itself very well. When you first walk in the store, you are invited in by the sight of their beautiful floral department. From there you get a picturesque view of the produce section, which is equally impressive.
If this store would offer high quality produce, I would do most of my...
