5.11 — Local services in Fenton

5.11 is overpriced and overrated.

I bought 5.11 Apex pants during a promotional sale they had going on, at a much more reasonable price of $60. After 2 days, 5.11 cancelled the order with no reason whatsoever. They cancelled the order after the promotion so I couldn’t repurchase the items at the sale price. They never charged me for the product, and simply stated they wouldn’t fulfill it. They gave me a “free shipping” code, which is useless because if you buy 2 of anything through them; their overpriced clothing will get you over the $100 minimum for free shipping.

I called up to this store and asked if they had the cancelled items in stock in the size and color I ordered, and they sure did. It appears 5.11 cancelled the order simply because they wanted the extra $60 from me than what the sale price was.

I reached out to 5.11 several times and received no answer. That’s fine, I’ll purchase from their competitors like Helikon-Tex or Spiewak, or similar brands that are much more modestly priced and can actually check their customer service inbox without penny pinching from their customers.

Also, their quality has gone down hill the last 5 years. Older 5.11 stuff I’ve purchased were superior in quality. The stuff they market and sell now hardly lasts the test of time. I have purchased pants in 2018 I still use, and received pants last year for work that are in shambles. Same pair of pants, just different years they were made. While on a family trip, I realized that there were 5.11 locations nearby. We decided to stop, because my only option back home is to order online. The 5.11 stores offer an opportunity to see items in hand, get a better idea of size, and understand how available attachments and pouches will work with different gear. This was my first visit to a retail location and I'm happy we could stop. Staff were extremely helpful answering all my questions and helping me find appropriate gear based on my needs. I was able to change my mind about a few accessories, since I was able to get a better idea of their true size in hand. I wish there was a location near where I live. I highly recommend visiting a store location if you can. However, you'll walk out with more than you planned...

Fantastic store. Went in today on a friend's recommendation. I've purchased three pairs of Levi jeans over the past 6ish months, all of which now have holes in them (one pair developed a hole within the first month of wearing them). So, I went in looking for some sturdy pants that would last. Robert greeted my wife and I when we entered, and showed us to the pants. He gave us an overview of their product line, and then let us browse and try on different styles at our leisure. Bought two pairs of jeans and will definitely be back for more.
