The Game Getaway — Local services in Folsom

If I see a game store, it's a must go! This one was cute and nestled into the heart of downtown Folsom. Upon walking in you can see all the games are organized in terms of kind of game, ranging from two-player to multiplayer to kids to Brazil n busters. Went to the back of the shop and realized there were hundreds of games upon other games that you are able to sit and try out at some tables. Noticed an ad for a Dungeon Master for a DnD kids campaign over the summer.. wish I lived in town so I could apply! Best I could do was buy a few games, some brain teasers, and they have a nice collection of playing cards to choose from. I chose high quality Mandalorian ones....can't go wrong there! If you're a table top mater, a novice or just curious about the wonderful world of gaming...check this place out, there is something for everyone :) Not sure about the Beagle or Bagel game...but definitely...

Pretty meh selection with significant price markup. Lots of the stuff here you can get cheaper at Target, and the inventory doesn't make it seem like a place for serious board gamers.

I had reached out previously to see if the owner would order a game for me since I wanted to support local businesses, but he didn't seem to make much of an attempt so I had to settle for something else since I had a gift card.

Additionally, owner does not follow Covid protocols (dozens of ppl packed in today, owner without face covering).

It's okay for casual gamers who want to stop in for a puzzle or whoopee cushion and don't mind supporting the kind of person who thinks face coverings are a political statement.

Unfortunately, I'm looking for a friendly local game store and this place only really meets the local...

The Game Getaway is a great local shop. They've got a great variety of board games, including a lot of the weird specialty games that you only see on "best of" boardgame geek lists. They also have an incredible collection that you can play in the shop (after paying a basic cover charge for the day), for when we're done quarantining. We went there for a friend's birthday party one year and had a great time trying out a bunch of games that we'd heard of but none of us owned. I really like this shop and an proud to have...
