Read moreI asked for a shrimp and carne asada burrito grilled on outside to have a somewhat crispy outer tortilla which is common in most taquerias. The cook who I believe a partner in ownership gave me a hard time for my request as I explained how simple it is to do being that I myself have made this same burrito at home. This method provides a simple crunch along with holding the tortilla together IMO more securely. Nevertheless, my wife and I got food poisoning a few hours later after eating the burrito. We were both on the toilet the entire night and throughout the next day. I called the restaurant to tell them about our very unpleasant experience and the young girl that was working there earlier that same day answered the phone. I asked to speak to the mgr or owner and she said they were not there at the moment, that she would pass on the message...that’s it, no apology or "I'm sorry for your unpleasant experience".
I never got a call back. Keep in mind I called at 6pm on a weekday. I called back the following day and asked for the owner or mgr and spoke to the lady who was there on previous day. She said to come down and she would refund me for my food order. The cook who made the burrito sat at a table while I was waiting for my refund and not once did he make any gesture to ask me how my wife and I were doing or try and find out what may have caused the poisoning. Btw...he speaks plenty of English. I can only assume the shrimp wasn't fully cooked or some other ingredient was bad. Most likely never going back. Plenty of other decent taquerias to eat at...
Read moreFood taste is okay, but as a food service professional I saw so many things that made me question the sanitation. 1. Three women were working - all had their hair down. It is my experience that hairnets, hats or at least having your hair up is best practice to avoid hair getting in food. 2. Staff behind counter chewing gum while preparing food. 3. Frequent touching of ready to eat food with bare hands. This was practically constant. No one wearing gloves and grabbing cheese, moving meat on tacos, touching chips. 4. No one had masks - which isn’t really an issue unless your wiping your face and then touching things…. Probably won’t eat here again.
** edit: I see the restaurants response. Kind of a shameful response honestly.
I am a real food service professional, and not once did I state it was “required” to wear gloves. I did state, that it is pretty gross to watch staff touch multiple people’s “ready to eat” food with their bare hands, while they have their hair down, we’re chewing gum, etc. And not once, while I waited 20 minutes for my tacos by the front register, did I see any staff member wash hands.
Calling customers out rather than addressing...
