It's sad to see this mall go south. I remember when it was hopping back in '84 - '85. I worked at JC Penny in Suits, which was one of the anchor stores. They had a Spencer's gift shop, music store (extinct nowadays),Bachrach's clothing store, etc. Their food court was awesome. There was a great Gyro place, and, of course, the venerable standard Orange Julius. They also had an AMC Theater outside the mall where I got to see Back To The Future, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (all about the HS & mall life...that movie captured my teens so well), and a lot of those great teenage movies that came out back then. My uncle used to give me $20 to take his girlfriend's daughter to the movies when she came home from school. I eventually married her (divorced now). So many great memories. Accross the street on HWY51 they also had a Rax Roast Beef right next door to Arby's. Rax was so much better, I fell in love with roast been sandwiches because of them. I never understood why they never took off. Anyway, I'm going down the nostalgic road. My heart aches at the empty storefronts. Those were the days. Thank you...
Read moreLots of store fronts closed. There are several shoe stores we went to. They are mostly more expensive, i.e. Vans, Nike, etc. Kohl's, Von Maur, Hobby Lobby, Ross, Bath & Body, and the like are still open.
Not much of a food court anymore. There's a pretzel type shop. The pretzels we had were pretty good. A different Chinese food place where Panda Express was. Didn't really notice anything other than that.
A handful of walkers when we were there, but several people were shopping. There's not a whole lot of stores to shop here, in my opinion. Christmas time might bring in some temporary shops. This is a nice building in a great area. All kinds of restaurants, different stores, Walmart, of course (I mean, is it really a town at all w/o one 😂), Best Buy, Sam's Club, you get the idea. We rarely go shopping here unless it's for Christmas. This mall could be great again. We just need more stores...
Read moreWhat can I say? Malls are almost a thing of the past. With online shopping, free next delivery or even same day delivery, malls just can't compete. Not really Hickory points fault but they can do a little more with what they have.
Rent is one major problem which it's a catch 22, so I can't knock it to bad. But they need to be trying to get more things in, I don't see that and I do believe because it's not locally owned.
Entertainment is needed in this mall, maybe more food, shoot maybe some pets even.
Overall it's a very clean mall, but I would expect that since maybe 100 people walk the main drag in a given day.
I would recommend checking it out if you haven't, shoot take the kids, they may never see a mall again. It could be a thing of the past in the next few years.
R.I.P...
