I’ve pondered on writing this review. I chose this bakery because of the reviews and photos of their work. On January 9th, I went to the bakery in person to place the cake order. The clerk gave me the order form, and we went over the details of the cake. While standing in the bakery, I emailed photos to their email, which was the inspiration photo of a cake along with our party decorations to coordinate to the cake I was wanting. When I got home that afternoon, I followed up with another email and another photo with MORE details that I was wanting on the cake. On January 17, I stopped by to pay the balance and for my daughter to purchase earrings. During that time, I’d mention to the clerk that I haven’t heard back from my two emails and I wanted to make sure they were received emails with the details. I would like to add at this point of the review what I captured with the two visits to the shop was the lack of inventive and customer service. There was no friendly knowledge of my present, or appreciation. On the second visit is where it was solidified to what I was feeling. After paying my balance and earrings and her giving me my receipt, the clerk just walked off with her copy receipt to the kitchen area to stapled to cake order (which I could see), then she walked further into the kitchen area where I could no longer see her. I stood there thinking she was coming back with a copy of the cake order form marked paid or something. The other staff saw me standing there, in which she told the other girl. She coming back in and said, can I help you? I told her thought you were giving me a copy of the order. No that wasn’t it… she just walked off and said nothing to me. Like, have a good day or thank you. No closure at Suall.
On January 22, I received an email from a sugar mommy team member acknowledging that she received my emails and to discuss my request with attaching a cake menu that had sizing, serving and flavor. Basically, she did not have my cake order in her hands. I replied with letting her know that I already placed the order. She replied with a email confirming my photos, cake size/flavor and paid.
On Friday Feb 7th (had plenty for communication), I picked up the cake at the bakery. One of the bakers quickly showed me the cake, which I thought look great at that moment. the other baker brought the cake around to counter after she boxed it. She went to cash register and I went to pick up the box to walk out, and she said ‘oh, you have a balance’.. and I said, no I don’t. I quickly retrieved the receipts from my wallet because I had a gut feeling there would be an issue. It was quickly resolved after showing my receipts and I moved on with other errands. Next day when setting up for the party, I discovered the details that specifically requests via email and some order form were not on the cake along with lack of paying to detail design (from the photo that I provided) was the opposite. In the photo, the flowers were large (easily two-three large flowers). On the cake I received, they’re all small flowers. I requested gold in the center flower (just like the photo). I requested periwinkle in the colors I requested. There was no periwinkle blue on the cake. I requested the flowers to be carried over on top of the cake. There were no flowers on top of the cake.
I’ll post photos of the cake I received and the photos provided and emails with details. It’s obvious that the emails with photos and detail request where not crossed over to the baker or even noted, or follow up with confirming details before the cake was to made.
At the end of day. It was a pricey cake from a bakery with extremely poor customer service that lacks with inventiveness with their customers, from the counter to...
Read moreThis is long, so bear with me... TLDR = Bride approved!!!
I had a 3 cake wedding order with Sugar Mommy's, and every step of the way was amazing! I was able to share inspiration photos in advance via email, connect with the owner in person to go over additional details and have a clear price expectation for my order. I also expressed concern about a heavy cake topper that was not a problem at all for her!
I ended up ordering a 10 inch 1 tier, 3 layer, vanilla cake with strawberry jam for my wedding cake, a 4 inch version for my 1 year keepsake cake (havent eaten this yet, its wrapped and frozen), and an 8 inch oreo cake for my grooms/rehearsal cake. Very moist, great flavor and just like my inspiration photos (down to the chocolate drizzle on top!) The icing was perfect too! It's hard to find an icing that everyone loves, but these were not too sweet, very light, but still great flavor. Just what we wanted. Everyone at the rehearsal was excited for the vanilla and strawberry jam the next day at the wedding, and it lived up to their expectations as well. Great flavor, moisture and the strawberry between the layers made a perfect freshness that we wanted. The cakes were amazing, everyone loved them!!
I expected a higher price point, given their wonderful reviews, but the pricing was very reasonable! Not only that, but the cakes were bigger than expected too, they were so tall!! Thankfully we had more guests show up than anticipated so that was okay, but the cakes definitely served more than the recommended amount. What a nice bonus ;)
The best part of the whole encounter (besides the wedding!!) was that I put my 15 year old niece, who aspires to be a baker, in charge of picking up the cake. I did this because I wanted her to see a small woman owned business, and I knew she would love to see the inside of her store after driving by the cute exterior multiple times throughout the days leading up to the wedding. She loved it!! The atmosphere was so great for her. She is so inspired to make different characterized cake pops now and even wants to try making candy also! I plan on grabbing a Sugar Mommy's t-shirt to mail to her here soon. I love that even my family had a great interaction with this bakery.
CJ & Casey are both very friendly, professional, and you can tell that they care about what's going out the door. CJ listened, took notes, and delivered. Casey was so nice when I popped in for the rehearsal cake pickup, and the other worker (forgot her name) was very personable as well when I asked about my topper! I can't say enough nice things but as a bride with no wedding planner, I can not thank you guys enough. You made it easy.
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing! I can't believe I've lived in Georgetown for over a year, and this is the first time I've been here. First of all, the building and and inside are adorable. It's decorated so cutely and feels so inviting. The couple who owns and runs Sugar Mommy's is so incredibly sweet! They made me feel so welcome and excited to be in there. Their baked goodies in the display case are gorgeous. I purchased sugar free chocolate cake and a pack of sugar free cake balls. Oh my goodness. They are seriously the best ever sugar free treats I have ever had the privilege of putting in my mouth. It's taking an insane amount of self control to not gobble it all up at once. The chocolate cake satisfied my intense pregnancy craving that I've had for months. The texture of the cake is just great- unlike all other sugar free cakes I've tried; it is not dry in any way shape or form. The creamy frostings on top are so luscious and decadent. I'll honestly probably go back next week for another piece! The cake balls are also amazing. To me, they're better than the regular cake balls I've had in the past. I've seen pictures of her custom decorated cakes and cake balls and they are so adorable. I fully intend on ordering something from them for my daughter's birthday later this year. And I can't wait to go back for more...
