I attended Phagan's for half of my cosmetology training before moving out of state and transferring to a well known "Big Name" and more expensive Cosmetology College in Las Vegas, NV. I felt like I had learned a lot Phagan's, but I also took it for granted until I could compare it to other colleges. After transferring I realized that the quality of education in Las Vegas is definitely lacking and that I had received Exemplary training from the Outstanding Instructors at Phagan's! In Las Vegas, I was teaching my Instructors... I knew more than they did. The owners of the school would request me to cut their hair because no one else knew what they were doing, I quickly made it into all of the advanced training and honors programs in my new school and acted as a mentor to many of my classmates. Since graduating, I have been working for some time in a salon and I am now a Licensed Instructor at a different Cosmetology College in Las Vegas. As an instructor at yet another college, I can tell you that I am even more grateful for mu training at Phagan's. I stand by the Phagan's standards and training that they have given me and I try to implement that here at the school I now teach at, however, I can honestly tell you that neither of these colleges here can hold a candle to what I experienced at Phagan's in Grants Pass. As a note of advice, I feel that as a student, you must remember that it is College, Not High school, which means that you get exactly what you put into it. In any college, you must be self driven and focused on your end goal daily. You can't expect to have your instructors bottle feed you constantly... the cosmetology industry is a completely self-propelled industry. If you can't manage yourself and keep yourself busy, focused, driven and marketing yourself to get people in your chair, you will not make it. I am speaking from experience...Phagan's education is TOP NOTCH in my book... it will completely prepare you to walk right into a salon and be successful.... just listen to your instructors, show up and work hard every day... if you can do that, you will have a long, prosperous and successful career. I would not be as successful as I am on this career path if it wasn't for the foundation that Phagan's build for me.
Thank you Phagan's...
Read moreI went in for a facial. I have very sensitive skin, I made sure they knew that when I scheduled my appointment. I arrived for my facial, again letting them know my skin is very sensitive. We agreed to use their sensitive facial care line. I opted not to have the full massage, instead she only massaged my face and jaw line. During the facial I was in heaven. It felt wonderful. I only wished the gal would have told me each step as she started them. I left with scheduling a follow-up facial in 4 weeks. I was so fresh n clean feeling. Until that evening, my face started to feel like it was sun burned. I called Phagens, spoke with a manager and she suggested I apply aloe Vera gel. Most likely it was the exfoliant that has irritated my face, she said. She also said she would call to check on me the following day. I’m still waiting for that follow-up call. 😒 I had to apply the aloe Vera gel for two full days until my face calmed down. Very uncomfortable feeling.
Two days later I was in full-blown congestion filled sinuses. I had no idea that massaging could release all this crud. It has been 2 plus weeks since my facial and I’m still congested and now my ears are plugged for the last week. I’m now on amoxicillin, and have been to both Urgent Care and my primary doctor.
I know I cannot point my finger at Phagans for this sinus crud - but I will say it would have been nice to be told to drink lots of water after the facial and massage to rid my body of any crud that was released. Also, if the gal doing my facial would have spoke what product or procedure she was doing, (ie this is the cleanser, now I’m applying a moisturizer, etc) if she would have said she was about to scrub my face with an exfoliant, I would have stopped her, because my skin is so sensitive.
Bottom line here folks, please tell your clients to drink lots of water after a facial/massage, and let them know what your about to put...
Read moreI like knowing what to expect from hairdressers: Doing what I ask. I appreciate a pro's supervision: She makes sure they do what I ask. That's why I go to Phagan's. Phagan's was my last-ditch effort: I was ready to drive to Medford looking for a hairdresser who would just listen to what I wanted & then do it. At a local upscale shop I'd paid twice as much for one high-end "professional" to color my hair (not a bit better) then not only ignore my instructions, but shame me like a three-year-old for being too stupid to know what was best for me when she cut three inches off after I'd said, "Don't cut it. NOT ONE SNIP. Don't even take the scissors in your hands." The Phagan beginners are a little slow (they're learning, so plan your day accordingly), yet still not as slow as two separate-shop "pros" I trialed in this very town. I've never had a rude student hairdresser at Phagans Grants Pass, although beginners are understandably more interested in following instructions correctly (what a concept!) than being a chair-side counselor. I've never had ridiculous color at Phagans Grants Pass, which I've had from pros before, once out-of-state and once here. Another plus: Make an appointment, and you're almost guaranteed not to wait longer than five minutes. Be aware, if you follow one stylist, she'll get better, and she'll soon graduate and be gone. You can ask for the student stylist you particularly like, but realize they are students & their own lives change; you may come in & discover you're seeing somebody else. Bottom line: If you want a Sassoon-trained diva who experiments on you, with all the drama that involves, go elsewhere. If you know what you want & would like to see it accomplished, try Phagans. (PS: The...
