I wanted to buy a couch there. They take cash only. Okay. They had trouble filling out the form. They only give you seven days from purchase to pick it up or they will deliver for 45 dollars and up depending on where you live. This is supposed to be a place where low income people can buy things they normally couldn't. So they tack on high delivery fees. And if you can't come up with the money...oh well, sucks to be you. So I tried for a few days to find someone with a truck that could help me but I couldn't so I called and said fine I will give you the money even though it would be a hardship for me and I will pay when they get it here. I spoke with a very rude girl on the phone that said, no you come back here and pay us in advance or you are out of luck. I told her I don't drive and it would be difficult for me to get another ride there. Too bad. Then she put the delivery driver on the phone and when I told him my situation he said (and I quote). "I guess you better heel toe it over here then. You can do it."...No really, that's what he said. So then I ask if I'm paying so much for this can you at least help me get my old couch out. Sure , he says. For another twenty five dollars! So I had to ask someone to take time off work to take me and when I get there I give my receipt to a woman who barely speaks English and doesn't seem to know what to do. She has to get help from another woman who doesn't seem to know either. So we wait and wait for them to figure it out. When they finally do they actually have the nerve to tell me they might get it delivered next week!! So when I start to say "What?" the girl that was rude on the phone comes out in power suit and gives me more attitude. You can tell she holds the people who come there in total contempt. When I say that you guys told me to "heel toe it here on the double" she actually argues with me and says "He never said that. I was there. That never happened." Then very snottily asks me if I want my money back. I'm about to say fine when she decides she wants the sale after all so asks the driver it he could deliver it that day. He says yes. I would have loved to tell them where they could stick their couch but I am a low income person without wheels and have few options and they know that. That must be why they feel they can treat us the way they do. They are rude and demeaning. So much for Christian charity. I will never go there again. My advice is stay away and save yourself humiliation...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am a Christian Chaplain who has been donating my personal time to ensuring the Christian section of books remained just that, even though the volunteers vehemently objected, because they're not all saved - Bible believing Christians!! The Manger- Curt , was openly hostile towards me for absolutely no reason, saying I was deceptive telling "his volunteers" that I was also a volunteer of Christian Layman, which never occurred. I am a Seminary graduate with thirty years ministry experience in almost every area of ministry that one could imagine, thanks be to God! So, this past Wednesday I went go through the books as usual and a woman named Denise said I couldn't do that any more because " they [Christian Layman} believe that"all paths lead to God." I told her that was Pantheism, a false doctrine of other religions, but NOT of Christianity. I then confronted Curt about this and he reiterated "your're not a volunteer here. I said " I m talking about pantheism that Denise believes in, she told me not to dispose of books like mediums contacting the dead, satanism& satanic worship, Is this true?" He said "yes" "we have a lot of good people here, just because they're not Christians, does not mean they'r'e any lower than you." I said yeah , I'm aware, but are YOU aware that the CROSS is the ONLY WAY to HEAVEN?? He grew more up set and nodded affirmative that he did, I said these other people aren't going to make heaven believing there are many paths to God, the Cross was the ONLY WAY!! Ive been rudely treated by store manager numerous times, and also volunteersš©The staff and Manager need trained in hands on customer service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor the most part Christian Laymen was not a bad place to go, but the lady that checked me out after I was finished was ignorant and kept telling me that well your at 30$ as if I didn't have the $ to pay for what I was paying for. I also had 2 vouchers one for mattresses and one for clothes for my 2 boys and myself. I did not get her name but I would recognize her anywhere. There was no reason for her to be rude or ignorant to me. That is a place that helps people who can't afford to go other places to get what they need and I was told they would have brand new mattresses for my boys for their new beds well they take used donated beds and spray them. They did have brand new mattresses but I think I will try to find them else where cause that lady really upset me and made me feel like I was worthless. For a full size and a twin mattress would come to a little over 300$ for those. I am really upset with that lady and I was nice and she kept telling me that something I picked out was supposed to be more then the tag that was on it so like that was my fault. I didn't put it there and I found it with the makeup bags. Needless to say I probably won't be going back for a long time and if I do I will let someone know that I will not be made to feel like I'm worthless because I'm not the only person who has shopped at Christian Laymen and there's people with $ that go in there as well. If you can't be nice and treat people with dignity and respect cause they may be going through a rough time then don't work in customer service especially when it's to help those...
