Buying a special occasion dress is challenging when you are over 50 (a little over 60) and you are a "real person". Although I play tennis 2-3 times a week and do Pilates 2-3 times a week, I don't have a perfect body. I am also 5'2". I ordered many (and many) dresses online for my son's wedding. Being short, even if I did do alterations to length, it would change the style. Because I'm short and have a short torso, it's almost impossible to alter the midsection area. Although I live in northern Florida, I decided to make an appointment at the Hallandale Beach location because we were going to be in Ft Lauderdale for a trip. Maria made my appointment over the phone and even followed up before my trip. Meeting her, you can tell she LOVES to put the right dress one her customer and wants you happy. I found the perfect dress except there was one problem ..... it was white. Maria informed me that it could be made in any color from their fabric selections. I was skeptical. Maria mailed me several samples based on colors I picked. I picked the color and I had measurements taken where I live by a seamstress (Maria sent a sheet with what needed to be measured). Basically, a custom made dress was being made for me. Once the dress came in, my husband and I drove back to Hallandale Beach for alterations. Maria and Gelsis (seamstress) worked together to make the dress perfect for me. They are both experts in what needs to be done to make you look your best (Maria knows all the tricks with what should be taken in, length, and draping) and worked together like artists to create their dress. After all the alterations were complete and Maria was satisfied (you were not getting your dress back until she was 100% happy), the dress was carefully mailed to me. During the entire process, Maria would text, call, and follow up (even when she was off work). The dress was exactly what I wanted .... understated, elegant but not frumpy, comfortable, and just my style. The dress was transported in our car from Florida to the wedding in Pennsylvania and I never had to steam it. The bodice had boning in it so this gal with 36C bra did NOT have to wear a bra. The boning lifted you up, also sucked in your sides AND made you stand taller. The dress was so comfortable. I was able to pin a special pin that belonged to my mom on the side. I received many, many, compliments during the wedding and when friends saw photos. Maria is a gem. It's refreshing to have someone love what they do and take such special care of you. I walked today in the store and the attendant told me that if I want to continue looking for a dress I need to be aware that dresses are more than one thousand dollar from exclusive designer- By saying this she was implying that I may not have the money. I found this to be extremely insulting- I can’t believe she had the audacity to question I could afford. Do not judge a book by its cover. I wanted a dress for a winter Party in Paris - The selection was sleeveless and she suggested wearing a coverup- I think you will not want to cover your beautiful designer dress… You will need to educate your sales person in order to represent the quality. Let them see the Selena and Julia Roberts Pretty woman movies- Money is not class and class is not money. By the way beautiful designs-but ugly...

After a terrible experience with Saks Fifth Avenue (they sent me a worn, smelly, stained and torn Rene Ruiz dress), and the inability to find this particular dress anywhere anymore, I called Maria in the Rene Ruiz Hallendale boutique to see if she could find the dress. There were none anywhere. It was the absolute perfect dress for my daughter’s wedding. Hearing the devastation in my voice, Maria called the warehouse to see if they had any material left and they had just enough to make me a brand new dress! She even helped me figure out what size I needed since I could not try one on in advance. Maria saved the day and the dress is gorgeous and so so so well constructed!
