Ulta Beauty — Local services in Harlem Township

Do not go here for curly hair service. I booked the signature curly hair service & the stylist left me laying at the bowl for 10 minutes which was super uncomfortable. Didn't clip up my hair anything. I didn't have my phone on me to pass the time after asking if I should leave it at the chair. Prior to this she stated she would cut a little wet then finish it off dry to shape. I said I wanted to do a bigger chop and my to my shoulders dried would be fine. She cut ALL MY HAIR wet straight to my shoulders! So you can imagine that when it would dry CURLED it was way shorter than my shoulders. She dropped the comb on the floor multiple times. She didn't do a style and go as described in the service I was paying for. She "diffused" it half way and left my hair still wet with no style to it. Stating it was making it frizzy. She wasn't diffusing it right at all. She very clearly had no idea what she was doing. She left it so round and unappealing. When she asked if I loved it hated it whatever all I could say was it will grow back because I was shocked at how I looked and how she was okay with having me leave the salon looking like I did with my hair incomplete. I left feeling so defeated after growing my hair out for 6 years to have it ruined in the matter of seconds. The stylist then admitted AFTERWARDS that she was still learning curly hair... when checking out the cashier asked how it was and I was obviously upset and she said if I wanted to tip. I literally tipped the bare minimum of $10 literally just for the deep conditioning product. I called customer service promptly to let them know and they said I would receive a refund and follow up call within 24 to 48 hours. I never got a follow up. I called again days later and was told the same thing. It's now been over a week and I have not received a refund or follow up. There is absolutely nothing they can do to fix my hair. I feel lied to and cheated. If the stylist wasn't comfortable doing the curly hair service or still learning as she stated at the end of the service, it should have been disclosed prior to booking the service or a heavily discounted rate should have been provided and it should have been up to me if i wanted to proceed. If I wanted someone inexperienced in curly hair I would have went to the beauty schools. Not booked a curly hair specific service where the site states im matched with a stylist whose an "expert" in that service. The stylist was Unprofessional and inexperienced. Definitely don't recommend and definitely not worth the $72. Seriously go to sports clips for way cheaper because that's about the quality you're gonna get just pay way more. Everyone was shocked that the stylist let me leave looking the way i did with my hair especially for the cost....

I scheduled a hair and formal makeup appointment for my wedding at the Machesney Park, IL Ulta location. I had read the reviews about rudeness (which concerned me) but decided I would give it a try anyway.

Showed up on time at 10 am and was completely ignored by the first stylist. Waited another 10 minutes to finally be acknowledged by a second stylist who informed me that they did not have my appointment and they have "lost a few stylists" recently so they could do nothing for me. I even showed them the nearly 15 min phone call to their location I had made the month prior to book the appt. My wedding was to start at 330pm. I was literally sitting in their parking lot on the brink of tears on my wedding day calling every hair place in the area- desperately trying to find someone who could help me.

I finally reached Jordan at Golden Aura who was my hero that day. She said, "I got you girl", and she said she could work me in at 1230 pm for makeup and hair. I cannot tell you how wonderful she was in listening to how I wanted to look that day and she took great care in making sure every detail was the way I wanted it. Because of her I got to feel beautiful and confident on my wedding day and I arrived on time! The inside of the salon looked so much nicer than Ulta and all of the staff were welcoming and attentive. If you are looking for hair or makeup, I highly recommend Golden Aura Hair and Spa, and I definitely recommend Jordan. Avoid Ulta unless you like being treated poorly, being ignored and someone not giving a crap about you...

There are 2 Ulta Beauty locations in my area, and this used to be my go to. I’d specifically go out of my way to avoid the other location due to the fact you’d get snarky attitudes and blatantly ignored from those associates, but when you’d walk into this one you’d be welcomed immediately and helped if needed. However, I’ll be boycotting Ulta after hearing what I’ve heard. At the Machesney location, there was a retail theft and multiple employees were assaulted physically from the person stealing. The person ended up getting away and now, the employees who were punched numerous times, are being fired. Ulta can reply and say there is a policy in place for their associates safety, truthfully it won’t alter my statements. Any teammate, leader, associate, ANYBODY who stands by and watches someone they work with DAILY get assaulted due to “policy” is not someone I want to work with. I want to work with the person who jumped in to defend me, and Ulta is losing WONDERFUL team members and managers who dedicated many years to this location (and in some cases, multiple stores). I’d rather spend the money on shipping from the brands websites than step foot into an Ulta again. I value employees over policy. Employees may be replaceable,...
