The facility, physical therapists, etc. here are nice. The facility is convenient and the therapists and staff are super friendly. I personally did not find my physical therapy experience helpful at all but I don't think they were really equipped to provide the kind of care I needed. They are great for acute injury recovery but as someone who has chronic hyper-mobility issues I think the kind of care I need was outside their area of expertise.
However, the larger Sportscare of America corporation is is a mess and I would never go back. The company claims that they verify your insurance. A quote from their site "At SportsCare we verify your insurance immediately, at no cost to you, so you’re fully aware of your responsibilities way before your first visit." This is completely false. I was told that the facility was in network with my insurance and every single time I attended a physical therapy session I was assured that, not only did I not have an outstanding balance after paying my copay, but that the facility had received prior authorization for my subsequent visits. This was a total lie. Almost a whole year (11 months) after I stopped attending physical therapy there I received a massive bill in the mail. I immediately called the billing department number provided to figure out what was going but I could never reach anyone. I was constantly sent to voice mail and no one ever called me back and there was no information available about their hours. After getting in touch with my insurance company I was told that the facility was out of network, hence all of the out of pocket costs. If I had known this from the start I would have found a different physical therapist or just not gone at all since the therapy was completely redundant and pointless for me. After months of trying I finally got in touch with the billing department and was told I was not the only person to have this experience, that it is actually a quite frequent occurrence. When I questioned why they waited so long to bill me I was given an extremely vague answer that sidestepped any accountability for the issue.
You would think that a company that knows this is a common issue would do something about it, but I have a feeling if people were given accurate information and billed promptly they would stop going, and the company is fully aware of this. Regardless of the legality of this practice it feels extremely shady and dishonest to treat patients this way. People should be able to feel safe accessing the medical care they need without worrying about whether or not they are suddenly going to be plunged into unexpected medical debt months later.
TL;DR: If you have an acute injury and can pay out of pocket for physical therapy this is a fine place to get care. But if you are a normal person who relies on your insurance to cover the bulk of your medical expenses I wouldn't gamble on this place maybe being honest about costs. If for some reason this is your only option make sure you keep a thorough paper trail from both your insurance provider and their billing department before and after every visit, because no one is going to be looking...
Read moreThis is an excellent team of therapists and other collaborating staff who are completely focused on helping the patient improve or resolve their physical therapy needs. But, they truly strive to go above and beyond that each time they work with you. Unlike others who claim to be competitors and put on the fancy uniforms and jazzy runway spotlights, this is the place to go if what you want is relief to your specific body part in trouble because Sally, Molly, Mallachy, and the entire team are the best in the area.
You won't see the assembly-line type set up like other providers who get you in and out in 20 minutes. At Sports Care, they will work much harder with and for you.
Beginning with Insurance Verification, Lori will call you and help you.
Wally will deliver the warmest welcome onsite.
Then Sally and Mallachy or Molly will sit with you and do an intensive intake and make sure they address all your questions, concerns, and goals. Nothing will be overlooked.
They will motivate you but not rush you. They will go out of the way to check with you, make sure you are comfortable, can tolerate the workouts, immediately adjust to make sure you are safe at all times and display a genuine sense of hospitality and courtesy that will make you feel very welcomed.
While Sports Care is a seasoned and polished provider, they are a diamond in the rough for those who don't check them out and are distracted by the flashy, boutique, vanity-style groups instead.
Ask yourself if your goal is to walk a runway or get very specific and tailor-designed program to target rehab of your affected body part and a personalized home exercise program to help you maximize results.
I have worked with several other Therapists in the area and none compares to Sports Care Hoboken in quality performance and expertise.
Sports Care also represents reliability and continuity and they won't drop you half way in your program to go elsewhere.
As someone put it once: "Availability is Ability," and at Sports Care you can be sure to expect availability each and every time. That makes them super able.
I already shared with my doctor that this is a World-class organization I will rely on for current and future PT needs and asked him to refer other patients to Sports Care Hoboken.
Check them out in Hoboken and you will be very pleased too after you see how hard they all...
