This one is worth the read. Record stores are meant to be hip and cool and loving, right? Not at Tunes in Hoboken. Upon entering, I greeted a fairly older , 50-60 year old man with an almost bald head and a cool flannel shirt with "Hey, Man!" Usually you don't greet someone older with such casual voice but it was a record store for crying out loud, not the White House, and he was wearing a hip flannel shirt. He looks at me for a whole 3 seconds before mocking repeating back to me with "Hey!.... 'man' ?" I responded promptly with "Excuse me? Is there a problem?" And in the same mocking tone he replied with "oh not at all!... 'man'" I tell him "Look are you gonna help me out, a customer , or not?" He looks up the cd I ask for and doesn't have it in stock. I left Tunes that day for the last time, as I will not be returning until the company culture and environment isn't hostile and when it is more chill, casual, and helpful. In the heart of Hoboken, NJ, Tunes exceptionally exemplifies the monochromatic anti-diversity that has come to define the waterside town, for not better, but much much worse. Run by a troll who ensures to welcome you with a cold shoulder and a turned cheek, Tunes attempts to lure and bamboozle the average 20-somethings of town with a half-bit collection of Urban Outfitter resales, and wanna-be classics. In fitting commemoration of the town it calls home, Tunes ensures you will not leave without spending every last dime in your budget, for simple black variants in sleeves of yesterdayâs hits. Instead, I recommend Iris Records in Jersey City. A simple 15 minute drive rewards you with a lush and valuable collection, maintained by a jolly and knowledgeable collector. Plus no paid...
Read moreI love this place. They have a fantastic "New Arrival" section that gets updated very frequently and cost between $8-10. Also, whoever said this place is expensive is insane. Because outside of the new arrival section, they have Blues, Jazz, Rock, Soul vinyls that go for $2 and are in great condition. Not to mention you can look in the barrels of older stuff that's just $1. (I found the entire Last Waltz concert in there for $1 in relatively good condition).
This place has great prices and a great selection. I went to two NYC record shops to find albums for $30 new and came to Tunes to find those same albums used for $8 and work fantastic.
Love this place and will be back again. And...
