We patronize this biz for one thing: Fish cake. Our resourceful Oahu friends knew that they sold it, so we were elated!

ATMOSPHERE: They're located in Chinatown within an open-air market that houses other seafood stands. The place is naturally smelly, old and scary dirty, lol.

RETAIL: Fresh fish, fish and more fish.

MY PURCHASE: Fish Cake We used to be able to get this on Maui but absolutely no one that I know of makes it any longer. It's basically raw awa fish meat that's labor-intensively scraped off the bone and looks like paste. What we do is season it, chop up a few veggies, mix it together, form little balls and deep-fry them to make fishcake bites that make for a delicious pupu. According to the worker, this is sold only on Sundays and Wednesdays. Needless to say we came on a Saturday, placed an order and picked it up on Sunday.

SERVICE: The woman who helped me was friendly. She assisted me with pre-ordering and payment. She told me to come anytime between 7a and 1p the next day for pick up. I arrived around 10:30a and had to wait about 10 minutes as the fish cake was still being made.

TIP: Parking is a pain in the rear so it's best you tag team with a driver and runner.

Located in Chinatown in Honolulu. It's a small corner booth in a crowded building full of eateries that are mainly authentic Chinese foods. The market offers a variety of fresh fish choices from Mahi to Salmon and everything in between. You can buy whole fish, fillet, sashimi and poke all by the pound. I sampled the yellowtail poke (amazing) which is hard to come by in Oahu. I'll be back for more. The Ahi Poke was just just as good. Excellent sashimi quality fish. I was able to order the last spot of sashimi platter for Christmas n I was so happy I made it.
