This restaurant is the home of some of the best food that we have ever eaten - Vegan or otherwise. We stumbled upon this jewel while visiting Chinatown and were pleasantly surprised to find that it is a fully vegan restaurant. We ordered some fried wontons and they were so good that we ordered some to take with us and then decided to come back the next day for a full meal. We had the Hainan Chicken Rice, more Fried Wontons, and Soup. Delicious doesn’t begin to describe this food. Let’s start with the Vegan Chicken. It was so good. Crispy, flavorful, and it was actually juicy. We have never before experienced juicy vegan chicken before until now. And the rice was seasoned perfectly. We usually get plain rice with our vegan meals, but not here. The attention to detail is like nothing we have experienced and everything is perfectly seasoned. The soup was loaded with flavor, the vegetables were fresh, and the fresh basil was a wonderful addition. Even the sauces are loaded with delicious flavor. We wanted to stop eating but we could not because the food was just that good. But that is just a part of what makes Thuong An Lac special. It would impossible to talk about this restaurant without mentioning the wonderful service. This is a family-owned restaurant and it shows in all aspects. We were served by the son and daughter, and the food tastes like good home cooking. You can feel the love that goes into preparing the meals. It’s safe to say that when you’re here, you are family. Can’t wait to visit Honolulu again just to come back here.

Vegan eats review: Hands down one of the best places to eat in Oahu. Seriously. In the heart of Chinatown. You walk in and everyone looks up at you as if this is a neighborhood joint and it is. I knew it was going to be good. Do yourself a favor. If you are a vegan and traveling on Hawaiian Airlines, stop here first to grab some eats. The airline does not serve vegan or vegetarian eats really. Tip: Call ahead and order by number. She packaged our food so lovingly it transported so well and kept fresh. While I waited she gave me a glass of water. I felt like I was sitting with family, like my aunties, kind and patient and generous. We ordered so much it was perfect for dinner and breakfast the next morning. On our menu: #1 Spring rolls Came with a delicious rice noodle, shredded carrot, daikon, cucumber salad. A meal in itself. #4 Steamed Pork Buns These things are huge. She lovingly wrapped them in cling film to keep them warm and soft for the trip. #24 Shredded Pork Banh Mi You can tell all the ingredients have been marinated. Yum. #25 Combinatjon Banh Mi Not as dry as #24 but pretty much tastes the same. Delicious. Both are yummy. We’ve marked it as a return spot for sure. Again, call in advance for pick up prior to hopping your flight. Be patient and order by number. Smile and try the spicy vegan jerky as you wait. It’s worth the $10 for the takeaway package.

The definition of a hidden gem. This vegan spot is unassuming in its name. It’s a tad hard to find - on the corner, there’s a door that says “vegan Vietnamese” on it, and then you open the door to the right. Once inside, you have no idea ehat a treat you’re in for. When we were there, there were 5 employees (family members, I think) working there. They were so passionate about the food yet gave us space. They made sure we had plenty of the free unsweetened, hydrating rice tea. We ordered spring rolls, with cheap prices and generous portions. So so good! We also adored the vegan pork bahn mi and vermiceli dish. So filling, flavorful, and fresh. Lots of vegetables. Not oily at all and left us feeling healthy and good. This is the kind of business I love to support, really hoping they grow and stay in business. The food’s so good and would be a great regular eat if we were local. We also think they provide food and conversation to folks who are unhoused, which is very sweet. Such kind souls, such good food, give them a visit! Vegan, vegetarian, or omni, you’ll be so happy you did. We walked out feeling so so good and satisified with these delicious eats. This ranks among my favorite Vietnamese spots across many cities!
