**Further Inquiry Regarding Your Response
Thank you for your response. However, I still have concerns that were not adequately addressed, and I would like further clarification on the following points: Excessive ID Requirement • My husband was the one handling the alcohol, presented his own credit card for payment, and provided his driver’s license for ID verification. However, the staff still demanded my ID simply because I was standing next to him. Does this not seem excessive? Inconsistency in Policy Regarding Families with Minors • If a family with a young child visits your store and one of the parents, who appears under 40, wants to purchase alcohol, would you also require the child’s ID? • Your policy seems to imply that an adult might purchase alcohol for a minor, which is understandable, but in such cases, do you require a family relationship certificate to prove they are related? If not, then why was I, as a fully grown adult, required to present ID simply because I was standing beside my husband? Contradiction in Policy Enforcement • The most problematic issue is that when I asked the employee if my husband could leave the store and return alone to purchase the alcohol, the employee confirmed that this would be allowed. How does this make logical sense? • The purpose of checking IDs is to prevent minors from purchasing alcohol, not to create unnecessary inconveniences for adult customers. I clearly provided proof that I was born in 1989 and am well over the legal drinking age. Shouldn’t the store focus on preventing actual minors from purchasing alcohol rather than causing undue inconvenience to tourists? Lack of Response Regarding Poor Customer Service • I also raised concerns about the employee’s rude and unprofessional behavior, yet your response did not address this at all. • Despite proving that I was born in 1989, meaning I am nearly 40 years old, the staff unreasonably claimed I looked too young and refused the sale. When I questioned this, the employee dismissively told me to go to another store if I didn’t like it. • Why was there no acknowledgment or action regarding this inappropriate and disrespectful customer service? Simply stating that staff will receive additional training does not resolve the issue of how I was personally treated in this specific situation.
During my trip to Hawaii, pubs, restaurants, and even Target accepted a photocopy or a digital image of my ID for verification. Since Hawaii is a major tourist destination, I believe this flexibility exists because it is reasonable to accept an ID as long as the identity is clearly verifiable. The issue here is that only this specific store enforced such an excessive and rigid policy, causing unnecessary inconvenience.
I expect a more direct response regarding the behavior of the employee, as well as a clarification on the inconsistencies in your policy enforcement. I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to your follow-up.
Sincerely,
Unfair Treatment and Unacceptable Attitude from Staff
On February 18th around 9:00 PM, I had a very unpleasant experience at this ABC Store (1732 Ala Moana Blvd). My husband and I attempted to purchase two mini bottles of wine, but the staff unreasonably refused the sale despite us providing valid identification.
My husband presented his Korean driver’s license (with English information), and I provided a photocopy of my passport, which has been accepted at other ABC Stores and restaurants. However, the employee arbitrarily refused to accept it with no logical explanation. When I questioned this inconsistency, the staff responded with an extremely inappropriate and rude attitude, saying that if I didn’t like it, I could go to another store.
This kind of inconsistent policy enforcement and unprofessional behavior is unacceptable, especially in a major tourist destination like Waikiki. I cannot ignore the possibility of discriminatory treatment, and I expect a formal apology from the management...

If you’re staying near the Discovery Bay Condos, you’re in luck—there’s an ABC Superette nearby that has just about everything you need in a pinch. I already knew about ABC Stores in the area, but this one stood out thanks to its super friendly and respectful cashiers who always greet you with a smile. They truly make the quick stop feel welcoming.
The store is small-scale, but it’s well-stocked with essentials, snacks, souvenirs, drinks, and some surprisingly tasty food options. Yes, things can be a little overpriced, but the convenience and late hours (open until 11 PM) more than make up for it.
Don’t miss their Poke Bowls—fresh and flavorful—and the Musubi is a must-try! It’s perfect for a quick snack or light meal when you don’t feel like going far.
While most ABC Stores are pretty similar, store size can vary, but the vibe and selection are consistent. If you’re nearby, definitely stop by this one—you’ll be...
