100 Sails at Prince Waikiki: Where Island Hospitality Meets Culinary Artistry
There are restaurants that serve food—and then there are places like 100 Sails, where dining becomes a memory you replay long after the valet returns your car. Nestled atop the third floor of the Prince Waikiki, this ocean-view gem doesn’t just offer a meal—it offers an experience, anchored in aloha and elevated by excellence.
Arrival: A Warm Welcome at Every Turn From the moment we arrived, the service spoke volumes. The valet staff—swift, genuine, and observant—welcomed us like regulars. They assisted my elderly mother with care, confirmed our dinner plans, and personally guided us toward the elevators with a “have a great evening” that felt sincerely meant.
The hostess, equally gracious, greeted us with a smile and had us seated early, no hesitation. Already, the tone was set: this was going to be a seamless evening.
Service That Anticipates, Not Interrupts Our server delivered a masterclass in hospitality—drinks arrived like magic, refills appeared without a word, and suggestions came with confidence, not salesmanship. She knew how to make small talk feel warm, never intrusive. By dessert, she noticed the shift in pace and intuitively offered hot tea and coffee to complement the moment.
Even Manager Aaron made his rounds, stopping by to personally welcome us back. It didn’t feel like protocol—it felt like pride.
Buffet Excellence, Reimagined Let’s get to the heart of the matter: the food. This is not your average buffet—it’s a curated culinary showcase where quantity meets remarkable quality.
The porchetta was a revelation—crispy, salty skin encasing meat so tender it barely resisted the fork. But the real game-changer? A cilantro pesto and savory calamansi sauce that elevated the dish from excellent to unforgettable.
The prime rib was equally show-stopping: perfectly seasoned and somehow cooked medium even at the ends—a feat in any kitchen. The carving station staff kept things flowing with cheerful banter and zero bottlenecks.
Seafood lovers rejoice: everything from fresh-cut sashimi and sushi hand rolls to deep-fried oysters and pan-seared ahi was pristine. And yes, the unlimited snow crab—hot or chilled—flowed freely, no lines, no fuss.
But the sleeper hit of the night? A Hawaiian tofu salad that I initially passed over—until the first bite. Made with Sumida Farm watercress, Aloha Tofu, chili chickpeas, and crispy garlic, it was so bright and addictive I returned three times. I don’t typically return for salad. That should say everything.
Desserts That Deliver the Finale You Deserve Dessert here is no afterthought—it’s a highlight reel.
The chocolate macadamia nut pie with drizzled in caramel topping.
The lilikoi-topped chocolate cake had my brother speechless between bites.
And the Punaluʻu bread pudding, infused with lemon, and soft raisins topped with Laie vanilla anglaise was a sweet, cloud-like finale that lingered on the palate like the last notes of a favorite song.
Departure, Seamlessly Done Our check was presented promptly, valet validation included, with another offer for a warm drink as we gathered our things. It was graceful, efficient, and unrushed, exactly how an evening should end.
Final Thoughts: In a city teeming with dining options, 100 Sails isn’t just another buffet, it’s a celebration of thoughtful service, locally inspired flavors, and attention to detail that rivals fine dining. This is the kind of place that reminds you what hospitality should feel like.
As I told my family on the way out: “If they treated us any better, I’d have to invite them to...
Read moreLocated on the second floor of the Prince Waikiki hotel, this restaurant has menu items as well as a buffet option. Current price of buffet as of February 2023 is $85 per person. Although reservations are not required, you may have success without one. To my surprise, when I mentioned to the hostess that we'd be joining an already seated party, she was very off putting and came across as though she was being bothered. It only worsened when she explained that we couldn't sit with our family and another employee literally pulled up another table and chairs to accommodate. Talk about awkward yet funny.
Very spacious and on the night I visited there was live piano playing and singing. The young lady who was singing did covers of a variety of music and was very talented. This is a great location for catching up with friends or family, date night or even solo dining. If seated by the window, you can overlook the marina and people watch if that's your thing. At night, some areas in the restaurant are more well lit than others but not a show stopper.
Since I was only mildly hungry, I decided to just get appetizers. The Japanese chicken wings were flavorful and tender but petite in size. The chicken karaage didn't disappoint either.
Our host Philip was stellar in his customer service. Funny, informative and very supportive. It was his presence and service that turned around the visit and made it an enjoyable one after his scowling co-worker tried to rain on our parade. I liked that he promoted all of us sitting together as opposed to being scattered about and trying to be social with one another. This was a big factor in generously tipping.
Parking can be via valet or the limited street parking. If lodging here, you can charge your meals to your room or pay by cash or credit card. If in the area, I'd dine here again but would make reservations to avoid the disgruntled...
Read moreWent here because it was promoted on You Tube channels as one of the best buffets in Honolulu. Ehhh it's pretty good.
Price is 85 dollars a person. Having to spend on average 50 dollars a day of food here this is not much of a stretch, but I expected something more substantial in terms of quality and selection. Mind you the food was excellent, but I guess has inflated expectations of the place.
Sushi was limited to hand rolls and maki. Sashimi at the time was tuna, salmon and marlin. I never had marlin before so I was eager to try it out. Nothing special. Fish quality was good though.
Prime rib was excellent, it was rare, slightly bloody yet tender and juicy. Well done. Goe great with the fresh horse radish sauce.
The buffet was well worth if you are into crabs. Snow Crabs and the Dungeness crab were of very high quality with very firm flesh.
Oysters were very plump and juicy. Very high quality.
Boiled shrimp is the one treated with sodium, a bit bouncy but ok.
Clam chowder was very nice, not too many potatoes as filler.
Poke was ok, a little too much soy sauce in it, but acceptable.
They also give a small chocolate can slice for birthdays. Staff prompts all visiting parties if there is a special occasion for their visit. Hot dishes need to be replaced, the food was running low and were actually drying out.
Bread pudding was very good, and I'm not a big fan of it.
Fruit and Salad bar is of the churrascaria variety and quality.
If you are the person who likes to hog the seafood for the buffet, this place is for you, otherwise the other offerings are good, not exceptional. Personally, I would just load up on the Dungeness crab,but...
