Americans love to complain about how their tax dollars are being "wasted" on new transit projects like this, but don't even give a thought to the billions and billions that have been spent on roads and highways designed to accomodate cars. Highways take up entirely too much space compared to railways and generate absolutely no revenue. In fact, they are much more expensive to maintain than railroads because of the millions of 2-ton machines that wear them down annually, and are the least efficient in terms of density of people moved. Imagine one train with no traffic to deal with vs. 100 cars on the highway. Trains as a mode of transportation just make the most sense when you're planning for an increase in population density in the future. As one other user said, you will take a good public transportation system for granted once it is built, just like how nearly everyone in this country takes for granted the luxury of having their own personal death machine. Valid concerns about cost/length it took to build. 20 years to build a 20 mile system is way too long. Putting that aside, i did not think the train was overly bumpy, compared to similar systems around the world. Going westbound didn't seem as smooth, than going townbound for some reason.
