Overall, great express facial, good at firmer pressures, but didn't meet the needs of what I came for. Wouldn't recommend for prenatal massage.
My husband scheduled me for a 90 min prenatal massage, and I added on the 30-min facial, 30-minute scalp massage/treatment, and 30-min hand and foot scrub.
Pros: the text confirmation with photos to guide some of the tricky access parts was very helpful. I enjoyed that the add-ons were done in the same room while you were on the massage table. It made it an overall relaxing experience, much like you see spa treatments in the movies/ads. The facial was wonderful. Great attention to pressure and tactile sensations. The lady who did mine was amazing, and the back/ shoulder rub she did while waiting during one of the facial steps... I wish she could have done my whole massage. She had divine hands.
Room for improvement: lack of transparency about the products used. I don't think anyone spoke enough English to really understand what I was asking when I asked what the products were and if they were safe for use in pregnancy. I got a lot of yeses, but not a lot of confidence from the responses. I was there for a prenatal massage, very visibly pregnant, but I was brought to a flat table and told to lay on my back. No elevated upper portion of the table, no wedge pillow to alleviate pressure on nerves and lower back. They had me like this for nearly an hour. I finally had to ask if I could switch to my side because my lower back was killing me. did not have a table or the specialty pillows to enable a pregnant customer to lay on their stomach. This made the rest of the massage less than effective. would not recommend the scalp massage/ treatment. I was thinking a relaxing scalp massage, but it was pretty much a refreshing spray and someone scratching your scalp, then aggressively brushing and combing your hair. I thought I was just being a bit overly sensitive, but my scalp was just raw and hurt when I washed it later that night. the massage lotion/ oil felt very runny and kind of gross. I was grateful they use the hot towels to wipe it off before moving to another area. the person that did 3 of 4 of my treatments was good with pressure, but otherwise... she talked on her phone on three separate occasions and was doing something else on her phone while rubbing my lower legs one handed. She actually bumped my leg with her phone at one point, and would leave her phone on the massage table (I felt it vibrate on...
Read moreI had an excellent experience here, but there are a few things that I think some folks may find different so I'll try to share so you can decide if it's what you're looking for.
The building is a little shabby but looks like it's under repair. Prana itself is in excellent condition; bright, clean, and cheery. That said the walls are thin- (not their fault, landlords are notoriously bad about spending any extra money on any amount of soundproofing) you will most likely hear talking in the hallway, so bring earbuds if that bothers you! It didn't bother me and was mostly quiet during my appointment.
I got package C- the massage/facial combo. You start with the massage. My practitioner started with a light sheet over my body, which I've experienced with other asian-owned spas. I like it! It provides a bit of modesty if that's your preference, and I bet it would be better for anyone with body hair that might otherwise pull. We transitioned to no sheet (just covering my back end), and the massage oil I had contained maybe camphor or eucalyptus; not unpleasant, but cooling and a bit of that cough drop scent. I'm sure they have options if that wouldn't work for your skin.
I selected medium pressure and that's what I got! My therapist, BooBoo (so sweet) was great about changing it up if it was too intense in certain spots, and intuitively focused on areas where she felt muscle knots. Overall a great massage.
On to the facial- pretty typical! Double cleanse, steam, extractions (a light vacuum extractor), masque, moisturizing. The products used on me had a very light rose scent. There was no attempt to sell me any products, which I appreciate! When the masque was sinking in there was a scalp, shoulder, and decolletage massage (lots of check-ins to make sure I was comfortable).
I was a little chilly during the facial due to a fan in the room, so just asked for a blanket and then was just fine!
I enjoyed my experience and would go back the next time I'm in town. Hope that helps! Thanks...
Read moreThis was the most horrible experience I've ever had getting a massage in my entire life. It started with the fact that upon booking, they didn't provide the name of the person. Additionally, the massage therapist didn't introduce themselves before the session either, but okay, these things happen.
Throughout the entire massage, I was under the impression that the person didn't know the human body or the location of muscles at all. There was a lot of pulling and pushing that I have never experienced during any massage before (and it was a Swedish massage, which I always get, so I am very familiar with the procedures).
Then, while working on my shoulder area, the so-called massage "therapist" kept hitting my head every time she needed to move her hands anywhere else. There were several moments during the "massage" when all I wanted to do was to get up and leave, yet I tried to be polite and consider that those were techniques I am not familiar with. I wish I hadn't.
The final straw of this massage was the fact that the "massage therapist" kept trying to push me to extend my time, so she could upcharge me for this horrible experience. Also, right at the end when she was massaging my head, she literally used her nails to scratch my scalp. I thought she was going to tear my skin and hair. HORRIBLE! Absolutely horrible!
Upon leaving the place, the receptionist asked me to leave a tip in a very unprofessional way. When I refused to do so, she made a very unpleasant face.
I will never come back, and I advise everyone to stay away...
