1 Bedroom Suite- can fit 4 guests||Beautiful apartment feel set up with a kitchen, dishes, coffee maker, rice cooker, cultry, laundry machines, etc. ||The furniture is great, comfortable, and I appreciate that all the wood decor actually matches. I hate it when the wood are all different tones of brown. Clean, spacious, convenient. The couch can unfold into a bed. ||Shower is a rain shower and water gets hot quickly and pretty hot in temperature, which as a woman I appreciate. The bath tub is deep, though no long in length. The toilet is a japanese bidet!! ||Little Cons: |These were tiny observations that would have made the place perfect, though the place is near perfection indeed. The toilet roll holder isn't very secure and keeps dropping the toilet paper, there are no wash cloths or ktichen towel so which would be useful/practical (though paper towel is provided as well as dish washing soap and sponge). If you like ice in your beverages, be sure to turn on the ice maker in the freezer when you get into your room. It takes a day or two to make a decent amount of ice--like it needs to warm up after being turned on. The first day it spit out a couple of pieces but by day 3 the ice tray was finally being filled up. ||~| |Grand Islander Lobby Staff ||The staff in the lobby are wonderful. Upon arriving in our uber, Hilton Grand Islander staff Moses greeted us and helped us in. Throughout our 4 night stay, we'd see him in the lobby and he was always friendly, greeting us and checking in o our stay. We definitely loved his warmth and attentiveness. Thank you Moses! You're now forever in our memories of this trip and hope to come back and see you again!||Emy checked us in and was very informative, professional, and friendly. ||HGV rewards lobby staff caught us while we were walking to the beach and asked us if we were told about the special perks and discounts to participating eateries in the Hawaiian Village. She gave us information about discounted activities in the island too. She was so friendly and has a familial energy which brings you in and makes you feel you're with family. |||The Hilton Hawaiian Village||If you're looking for a university campus type of set up where all shops, convenient stores, boutiques and eateries are all in one area all for you and other Hilton guests, this is the place for you. They really did a good job where all your needs can be met by just staying in this Hilton campus/Hawaiian Village. We have our own area of the beach (note the run/walk sidewalk and beach is all open to the public and are not private), but it's much quieter and less traffic of people than central Waikiki off of Kalakaua Ave. We are right next to the marina, Ala Moana is very close, and there's multiple pools and live entertainment available on property. ||If you want to walk into the hustle and buslte of Waikiki, you can do so easily by walking along the beach towards Diamond Head (and then turn left inland at any point and boom, you're in the mix). The great thing about going to the hustle bustle is that you have the option of leaving returning to the the Hilton Hawaiian Village. ||||I HIGHLY recommend supporting the small local businesses just outside the village and do your part as a guest to the island and learn some things about the ancestral land you're on. Do a cultural and/or historical tour, or at the very least read the signs to the various beautiful statues that are scattered in The Hilton Hawaiian Village that pays homage to special key native Hawaiian people. Alongisde the ABC store near the main lobby, there are flags that says "Our History" and a museum like display of a snapshot of the history of Waikiki/Hawaii/Hilton Hawaiian Village. Definitely take a look at this. As a tourist here, we are guests and just as you're visiting someone's house, we are mindful, respectful, and mannered to other people who are here and leave the place better than you came. |||Eateries||In the Hilton Hawaiian Village, you'll want to go to Blue Water Shrimp as it has plate lunches. If you don't mind walking across the street of the property, go to Ala Moana Blvd to Island Country Market. It's basically an ABC store but with ready made delicious foods that includes deli style sandwiches, plate lunches, delicious gelato and ice cream, grocery items if you want to cook in your kitchen, etc. Definitely get their pistachio pie in the ready to eat refrigerated section in front...
Read moreAfter traveling for over 7hrs to get to the resort. The room I reserved (1bdrm w/ 2 full size beds for a reservation for 4 people, none of which were, a couple), was not available for me when I arrived. The staff that checked me in was indifferent to the circumstance and just merely offered "Sorry, we don't have anymore rooms with double beds available" as a consolation.
I brought my cousin with me on this trip because she was considering purchasing at Hilton however, the treatment received was completely unacceptable and to say the least she was unimpressed.
It took an hour and a great deal of persistence on my behalf to get the room I reserved. After waiting for over 45 minutes for the front desk staff and manger to search your system for a room and then tell me they don't have one. I stated that saying sorry was not acceptable. I needed a 1bdrm. w/ 2 double beds as I reserved.
I frequently had to ask why I was waiting because once I stated that saying sorry was not sufficient and I needed a 1bdrm. w/ 2 double beds as I reserved. The staff moved to the other side of the lobby and just kept tapping & looking on a computer without a word with regards to what they were doing and for whom. I did not know if they were searching for something else or if they were trying to assist me. Their treatment was very dismissive & It became apparent that their avoidance was in hopes that I would just go away. At one point the manager even escorted me and my guest away from the desk to sit on the couch in the lobby, I felt like to just get me out of the way. Because, I had to ask for water & take initiative to walk back up to the desk after 15 minutes to request the status of a room. However, once I stated that I needed to either get the accomodations reserved, or be compensated as a HGV member for the inconvenience. The manager SUDDENLY finds the percise type of room I initially reserved.
This was appalling to both me and my guest. We did not appreciate having to wait an hour for a room, be stressed out regarding the accommodations and most of all be treated with condescending behavior & remarks by the staff. From the moment I walked into the lobby, I wore a mask. Once finally being given the keys to a room, the manager comments "happy to see a smile on your face". First, I was not smiling and second, if I was smiling the mask would have prevented her from seeing it. The entire experience was unsettling and really started what was intended to be a relaxing Girls Trip on a very poor note.
I have been a member with Hilton for a very long time and this is the 2nd time that I have been to the Grand Islander. Both of which have not been very pleasant experiences. I love the facilities but in both circumstances the staff has left me feeling very unhappy. In addition to my negative experiences, each time I've visited the Grand Islander their appeared to be many unsatisfied customers in the lobby complaining and they happen to all be African American. I have stayed in the Hawaiian Village many times (5) to be exact and I have never had any problems at any of the other locations but, the Grand Islander. I will not book there again, it just not worth...
Read moreUpon checking in, there were several issues. First, when we arrived at our room, the doors (main and balcony) were completely open. We thought someone might have been in the room so we were hesitant to enter. This is a huge safety concern and should never happen. Aside from that, our room was not properly cleaned. The dishes in the cabinets were dirty, there was good remaining in the fridge from the previous guest and dishes that should have been washed. You can tell that the room hasn't been dusted in a long time and the floors were not very clean and there were crumbs throughout on the hardwoods and the carpets. I found a couple of hairs in the towels so we washed them all. The bed was made but as you can imagine, we were skeptical so we figured we should wash those too. Because check in was such a hassle, we ended up cleaning things ourselves. I don't have an issue cleaning up after myself but cleaning behind others is unacceptable and we're extremely disappointed in Hilton. My hope is that this is an isolated incident and others have not had this experience.
In terms of maintaining the room during your stay, that's your responsibility as well. They provide clean towels and supplies on the 12th floor for guests to grab as needed. The plus to having a washer and dryer on the room is that you can reduce the visits to the 12th floor.
Also, like other reviewers have mentioned, we were not aware of the ongoing strike before we arrived or the expectations of guests performing their own service/ maintenance. For anyone wondering, the strikers are very polite and typically go until 11 or so at night. You can hear them from certain parts of the resort but otherwise, it was relatively quiet. We are very hopeful that Hilton will reach an agreement and adequately staff its properties and pay the employees a fair wage.
We are Hilton owners and honors members and try to always stay at Hilton properties, if possible. This is our third time at the resort, but the first time staying at the Grand Islander Vacation Club. It's a beautiful property but as others have noted, the strike has had a major impact on the level and quality of service. For the price/ points used to stay, this was unacceptable and guests should be provided with this information so that they can decide if they want to spend their money/ points here or elsewhere. We have reached out to the vacation club but also wanted to provide some insight for others considering staying here in the...
