Swung by K+L on Sunday for the first time just to check it out. I had no idea they had a cosmetics section, but was surprised to find that they carried all the brands I order online. When Becca, an MUA there, asked if there was anything she could help me with, I figured I'd see if she could help with a problem I've been battling for over 20 years.
My facial skin is slightly darker than the rest of my body. For most people, it's the exact opposite, so it's a tricky thing to find a foundation that works. I modeled when I was a young kid and worked with some very talented make up artists. After, I worked at a modeling agency around some of the best MUAs out there. And in all that time, I've never found anyone who could color match me.
Becca did. And not only did she do it in under ten minutes, she also used a product that was mostly natural (important to me) and cost effective (though I'd have paid whatever she told me to). She explained what to look for in a brand to ensure I get good results going forward. And she didn't try to sell me a bunch of additional garbage I didn't need.
The next day I went back because I somehow managed to pick up the wrong shade. A gentleman (I believe Craig) offered to color match me again just to be sure I wasn't mistaken. And again, he matched me to the same color. He explained some of the trickiness with my skin tone and how to balance the color when I got a little darker (just mix).
This is all to say, I have never met more talented MUAs than I did at K+L. And I've met some insanely talented people. I'm swearing off Sephora and Blue Mercury and all the other junk. I will only trust Bella and Craig...
Read moreI used to enjoy coming here to buy gifts and treats for my kids. They carry a lot of brands that I like and their gift wrapping service is lovely.
But on a recent trip, when I needed to get the attention of a sales associate to ask a question, I was blatantly ignored. The sales associate literally made eye contact with me, then turned around and walked away as I was approaching her. My son and I were then looking at the childrenâs books and a different sales associate came over and loudly told him âkeep your hands to yourself, this isnât a libraryâ. My son wasnât touching the books at all, so I have no idea why she felt she had to say this to him in such a harsh manner. There was another family with two small children nearby who were also looking at the books, and she smiled at them as she walked by and said to let her know if they needed help. Unsurprisingly, my child picked up on this inequality and felt unwelcome in the store and asked to leave immediately.
I really hope we werenât treated this way because of our race, but based on all the other reviews of people who experienced similar discrimination, itâs hard to draw any other conclusion. With so many people experiencing this, I can only assume the owners not only condone but probably encourage this type...
Read moreTonight was not my first time at Kuhl-Linscomb. I've been coming here for years to purchase unique gifts for friends, greeting cards, cosmetics and even some amazing decorative pieces for my home... But unfortunately, this will be my last! An extremely rude older saleswoman in the cosmetics department began to follow my friend and I, as we were browsing, and insinuating very loudly to other sales associates that we needed to be watched. I couldn't quite comprehend what was happening, as I've never been accused of theft before, and certainly didn't expect to be treated this way at a store that I loved as much as Kuhl-Linscomb. That being said, it became so uncomfortable that we walked out and were stopped by a constable who searched our handbags. I understand the constable's position, as he had to do what he was asked, but I am both furious and deeply insulted by the actions of the sales associate here. Shame on you, Kuhl-Linscomb. It's time to put your employees through proper training on how to handle situations such as these, as to not wrongly accuse and offend your customers of being shoplifters. This situation was handled poorly and it didn't have to be...
