When one of my grandsons underwent over 20 hours of surgery over multiple weeks to remove a tumor in his face and neck at Texas Children's Hospital, the hospital did everything it could to make life easier for us, his parents and his siblings, while keeping him safe. As an urgent patient at Texas Children's Hospital, my grandson had virtually no wait time for appointments and surgery. His first appointment was within 14 hours after his tumor was discovered in Nacogdoches, Texas. In four weeks, he saw multiple specialists multiple times, was operated on during a holiday weekend, was operated on in the middle of the week, and was never kept waiting for life-saving care. The doctors, at Texas Children's Hospital, saved his life. The hospital is clean and well-maintained. Valet parking is validated (free) on surgery days. On other days, valet parking was $13. During surgery, there are lounges where the family can get free coffee, tea, and snacks. There is a Ronald McDonald House on site, for discount lodging. Recommended! (Note: My grandson rotated through three separate buildings at Texas Children's Hospital, but all are connected into one huge medical complex).
Update: My grandson Eedan is at Wallace Tower, for a follow-up appointment at Ophthalmology. As usual, the staff was fantastic, and the building was clean.
Update: I am at the Wallace Tower again this morning, with two grandchildren for two appointments. The line for the COVID screening questions, to be told "no weapons in the building", to get masks and to get wristbands are extremely long and unnecessary. It's frustrating to wait in line with people who 99.9-percent of the time never wear masks and who wouldn't report any COVID symptoms or weapons on their person, which would keep them from getting necessary medical care, to enter the building. If Texas Children's Hospital insists on throwing up this additional barrier to prompt medical care, they need to have more than two people processing patients and their families when the line wraps around the lobby.
Note: If you are not the parent or legal guardian of a minor, Texas Children's Hospital now requires a separate dated note, from a parent or legal guardian, for every appointment, whether or not the original note says that it's in effect...
Read moreWe scheduled here for an audiology appointment. This was our 2nd time getting a test done. We were told to schedule here versus the Katy location since they are “supposed” to do hearing test and ABR testing same day if needed. THIS WAS NOT TRUE. We spent over and hour driving here. 20 min to park and get into the office even with vallet parking. Our appointment lasted not even a full 5 MINUTES. FOR A HEARING TEST. We are mentioned to “DR” Nancy K Schwartz our child was autistic and ABA therapy and warned her the sound box hearing test may not be helpful as he may not be able to handle or do it. We went into the sound box she “tried” different methods then ended the test abruptly. Without fully giving our child the time to adjust to a different setting than normal. She then proceeded to make comments regarding my child’s behavior and crying. WHICH IS SHOCKING DUE TO WORKING ST A CHILDREN HOSPITAL. We suggested other things we could do we knew would help and she gave him no chance at all. AGAIN WORKING AS A CHILDREN DOCTOR NO COMPASSION OR PATIENCE WAS IN ANY INCH OF HER MOODY BODY. She walked us out to the check out with us and said okay thank you and wait here. THE CHECK OUT HAD NO CLUE WHAT WE NEEDED WE STOOD AT CHECK OUT LONGER THAN THE APPOINTMENT TO BE TOLD SOMEONE WILL CALL US NEXT WEEK.
Again this is a childrens hospital and I would expect the dr.s to have more professional skills, compassion, and patience. Not all children walk in do the test and understand. My child is Autistic. I would say these things even if he was not. Her behavior and manners as a DR. We’re unacceptable. Her attitude and energy were bad it’s almost as if he could feel it. She should not be working in any pediatric facility. Let alone be a DR. I would not want to see this woman even as an adult. It was all around the worse 5 min at a dr or hospital. Again 5 MIN. I will NOT be going back here or recommend this place to anyone. After this appointment I have decided no longer to use any Texas Children’s. I have taken my appointment survey and made all this comments. As well has a review under her name, google, yelp and whatever other pages I can find in hopes to help other families before making an appointment with this horrible...
Read moreI was at the Allergy and Immunology clinic at TCH today for my son’s allergy shot appointment. They were running behind as usual, but I am used to that now. Issue today is that I forgot to bring the Epi pen that is needed to get the allergy shot but I live very close by and had someone bring it to the clinic within 15 minutes. They still refused to give my son the allergy shot today because they needed to go home by 3pm. Even with 15 minutes delay, there was plenty of time for him to get the shot and for them to go home by 3pm. Also they were running behind as usual, so those 15 minutes made no difference in their workflow. I am very upset that this appointment was rescheduled because the clinic did not have the vial prepared on the day our appointment was initially scheduled for. And now my son’s treatment is delayed once again because everyone wanted their bags packed by 2:25pm to leave right at 3pm. On top of it, the nurse who was refusing treatment today was extremely rude. I could see her body shaking in anger that I wasn’t letting her pack her bags at 2:25 when her shift is over at 3pm. I’ve already called another allergy clinic nearby to get my son’s...
