I have considered leaving a much longer post but I will leave it with this. The instructors at HIP Fitness in River Oaks have given me my life back. Okay, maybe some context... 5 years ago I threw out my back, tearing two discs, and left with no surgical options for repair. Nothing I did seemed to help. In fact, everything I did made it worse. As an avid runner I was forced to stop training, stop racing. I could not play with my two little boys, I couldn't cough, sneeze, brush my teeth, or move too quickly getting out of bed without fear that I would be immobilized for months. I have attended classes nearly every day since the start of the year and the change in my life cannot be overstated. The instructors truly invest in you. They pay attention, seeing when you struggle and helping you get the most out of the hard days. They see when you are strong and challenge you to push yourself on the good days. They care. I feel blessed to have found this studio. Blessed to have met these instructors. The strength I have developed with their support means I can run again. I can pick up my boys and spin them around and fall to the ground without fear. All the movements that I used to take for granted before my injury are no longer in the front of my mind limiting my ability to live a normal life. Thank you ladies, for giving me...
Read moreIf you're looking for the Lagree method, this is it. And don't fool yourself into thinking it's a Reformer class. This class uses the Megaformer, and it's a whole new level of pain, burn, and rewards. It's INTENSE. One of the keys to its effectiveness is the directive: "slow and controlled." The instructors are often reminding us, "the slower the better! Challenge yourself to go slower!"
The only quick part is in transitioning to the next move, and they encourage a quick transition so that your heart and muscles don't take a break between moves. This ensures the very best workout in just 45 minutes, and that is key to why I keep coming back for more. When I leave, my legs wobble beneath me. Apparently that's a good thing!
Every instructor I've had since starting in March has been really encouraging and so good about providing individual attention. They are awesome.
Note: grip socks are required, but if you don't have any, you can purchase them there. Clean towels are provided (which you WILL need, because you will sweat your tail off,) and there is a water dispenser, but if you like to drink out of bottles,...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about HIP and Lagree fitness! I always describe it as if classical Pilates, cardio, and strength training had a baby, and boom, you’ve got Lagree. I’ve taken 800+ classes to date and yet it still challenges me every time I walk in there. I’ve been so addicted to seeing the changes in my body over these last 4 years. I mean I could barely hold a plank when I started, and yet, I held a 9 minute plank for a challenge during my time here and it’s all because of Lagree and the megaformers used at HIP. I’ve also noticed my endurance increase year after year, especially when I’m running or doing more cardio intensive workouts. Lastly but most importantly, the instructors here are all so wonderful and challenging. I’ve brought a few of my friends over the years to try out class, and the instructors have always taken the time to help them get comfortable with the moves and...
