I’ve been a returning customer for some time, but after today, I will never be coming back. When I arrived, I was disappointed to find the deli closed. I figured maybe they were understaffed or had run out of items — things happen. I’ve always liked their egg salad, so my husband and I grabbed some from the ready-made bar, along with the pesto pasta, chips, and a drink. We sat outside to regroup and figure out what to eat since, again, the deli was closed.
While we were talking, we started eating the items we had just bought from the market — only to discover the pesto pasta was spoiled. Mold on the olives. Absolutely disgusting. Still, we didn’t complain, even though we had every right to.
Around 5:15 PM (their sign says they close at 6), they began putting away chairs and tables. Not a big deal. We decided to grab food from Taco Bell next door since it was close and didn’t require moving the car.
At 5:30 PM, while we were eating the items we had purchased from the market, a woman — the same one who’s often at the register — came outside and yelled at us that they were closing and that “this isn’t Taco Bell!” I tried to explain that we had bought food from their store, but she cut me off and stormed back inside before I could say a word.
Yes, it’s not Taco Bell. But we were customers, we had purchased food, and we weren’t loitering or being disrespectful. If she had just spoken to us like a normal person, we would’ve left without a word. But that’s not how she handled it.
Frankly, I can’t help but feel that her aggressive tone and the way we were treated had something to do with the fact that my husband and I are people of color. There was no reason for her to come at us like that, especially when they sold us spoiled food and were still open for another 30 minutes.
Bottom line: the service is rude, the food is spoiled, and I won’t be supporting this business anymore....
Read moreJust no. Sandwiches are too small and expensive for what they are. They messed up on a standard sandwich (damn good sandwich) using a dry bland French roll when it should be Dutch crunch. I would not have tipped at all if I had known they screwed it up. My other sandwich the Bobby has super duper dry and smushed bread.
I'm from SF and fine dine often in addition to going to standard restos that only Icharge around $150 for two. I'm used to expensive meals, tiny portions, and high tip/fake health fee surcharges , but this was just way too small for what it is and not deserving of tip at all. I will never come back.
I stars for the taste being decent overall, but everything else is bad. Like $40 including tip for two small sandwiches? Come on!!!!
No idea where ppl around this area think these are large sandwiches. They must be anorexic that eat just enough for birds. FYI I’m a short petite 125lb woman. Not like I normally eat a ton of...
Read moreI like supporting local stores, so came in here after a hike with high hopes. Alas, will probably stick to Safeway. At 3 PM the juice bar was closed (no signage), and the deli staff acted like everyone should know how the place operated sight unseen. I understand hiring teens in the summer, but you need to do some customer service training, especially at tourist destinations. I got sass for days and practically no assistance. I ordered a veggie sandwich with hummus and avocado, which the deli custom order sheets say are $1 extra each unless on veggie sandwiches. Again, abysmal service so I don't know what a sandwich would have cost ordinarily or if I got charged extra, but mine was $8.95. The ingredients were fresh and tasty at least. The rest of the market is ok, normal touristy prices. One standout is an excellent craft...
