Struggle with a review for this store because I'll never stop going here but...
Let's start with a positive! There's an older gentleman that works super long shifts as a greeter on the grocery side afternoons and evenings. I feel horrible that I can't remember his name, but always get a high five or a fist bump as we come in, and he remembers us and clearly other people too and always has a kind word and a real smile. Never lets anyone get past them without saying hi and wishing them well in a genuine way. Many people stop and have a conversation with him and he'd definitely be missed if he ever left.
The store is usually well stocked, overall clean (difference between clean and tidy), and the people are mostly helpful. I can always find what I need and thankfully they don't often do the re-organization that causes you to not be able to find basic staples. At least the layout usually makes sense.
That being said, the potholes in the lot are frustrating and the lights out in the parking lot are frustrating and a little unsafe. The combination is downright hazardous!
This store probably more than other groceries I've been to has a common issue of leaving large pallets and stocking carts around during high traffic times. I understand you have to sacrifice that to have well stocked aisles (they do a great job with that usually) BUT... why so many unattended? Aisles are already so narrow anyway with shoppers not paying attention and just parking themselves in any random place. The fact that the other half of aisles is blocked quite often on weekends and evenings by pallets and carts is really annoying. I've worked retail and I understand that it's a necessity at times, but maybe not this often?
The grocery side self checkouts almost constantly have at least one register totally out of service. And it's often faster to walk all the way down to the other end of the store. There is a particular attendant who sometimes has 2-3 registers down at a time and is horrible inefficient at assisting people checking out. I always look for her when I come in and if she's working I plan my trip to end at the checkouts at the other end of the store, because even if it's not backed up at the moment, it's guaranteed...
Read moreYesterday (10/18/24), while shopping at Meijer, I found a phone on the cart I was using and handed it to a cashier I’ve seen for years. She passed it to a younger woman working with her. I realized the phone likely belonged to the older gentleman who had the cart before me and informed the cashier, assuming they would turn it in to customer service.
Later, I called Meijer to check, but a young woman on the phone claimed no phone had been turned in and denied knowing the woman I gave it to, saying she wasn’t an employee. I provided more details, explaining the woman was in uniform and had access to the register, but the young woman continued to deny it. The call became unpleasant and ended.
Feeling unsettled, I called again and spoke to a manager. I was shocked to learn that everything the young woman had told me was false. The older gentleman had returned to look for his phone and even called it, hearing it ring before it was turned off. He waited at the service desk but eventually left without his phone.
I had given detailed information that could have helped locate the phone, and the manager assured me they would follow up with the gentleman. I feel awful about the situation and am deeply disappointed, suspecting the employees may have stolen the phone. I hope it was...
Read moreMeijer the company is fine, but the staff at this installment are questionable. I came in to get hygiene products and the cashier commented that I could really use them. Uncalled for and rude but I didn’t catch his name. Then, I came in later to pick up an order for my grandmother. (Keep in mind I don’t know Meijer that well but the system is fairly self explanatory.) I came to the Customer Service desk, as directed, and said these exact words. “Hi, I’m here to pick up an order for my grandma, insert last name, she said it was some sort of flash food sale thing.” The person gave me a very confused look and confirmed what I said, then went to another worker at the checkout and asked what G-ma last name was, and they suggested it’s the Flash Food. She then came back to me and very rudely asked if I meant Flash Food. I said yes and she scoffed and said “Well you could’ve said something.” I took offense but I’m not confrontational so I only muttered “but I did.” She walked up to their fridge and also muttered “yeah right.” The whole exchange was unpleasant and because of this, I plan on avoiding that store entirely. The rude customer service rep’s name was Sharyl or Charyl, and she didn’t sound too pleasant with the next guests she had either. For more context this took place on...
