I have never given a 1 star review to any business until now. I will say the shop looked well stocked and interesting but we were in Jefferson with friends ready to tour the town in one of their golf carts we had reserved. I have a painful knee at present and made the walk from our B&B to pick up the cart a few minutes prior to the reserved time only to be told they didn’t have a cart available. Excuses were that one broke down and the other one wasn’t back because of the delay in leaving etc. They did not call me to tell me that a cart was not available although they had my number. So..we left and started walking and taking in the sites in the area. We were blocks away when they called to say a cart was now available. I could not make the walk back so I declined but was not happy about the entire situation. I was told when I made the reservation to be sure and call them if we were not going to rent the cart. I absolutely love going shopping at Made in the Shade. Angie has a small but good selection of antique furniture but her real talent is picking up fabulous antique and reproduction jewelry, and some mighty fine linens. For the past year she has been selling some of the most fun clothing around. The pieces are very feminine with a vintage look and feel to them, they are very comfortable to wear. She carries sizes that fit the real woman and smaller. While you are in the shop be sure to see her lampshades she has refurbished and the stain-glass hanging around the walls. Made in the shade is a fun little place that I’d recommend all Jefferson visitors to check out! It’s got your typica tourist souvenir classics like tshirts and magnets but with its own unique flair. I enjoyed all the personality in the decorations and the items they sell. The coolest part is that you can “mine” for fossils and gemstones! Go into the store and buy a bag (looks like sand, but as you sift it out, treasures appear!) the small bags are $10 each but I’d recommend the “motherlode” which is about $27 including tax but you get a TON of cool crystals and fossils!
