Let me preface this by saying I LOVE TOUSLED SALON.
āTheyā say that bad things happen to good people. Wellā¦that is true and it sometimes can include something as simple as a haircut. I tried a place in Brooklyn and I guess the fates were not on my side that day. I got a haircut that made me cry as if I had lost my home, my car and my dog. It was horrifying and all the stylist had to say was, āI thought it was what you wanted but donāt worry itāll grow backā. I was so mortified with how I looked (she shaved the back of my hair off and with a pixie cut there is NO hiding anything !!). I was so distraught that I worked from home for days because I would not leave the house and missed a work event I was supposed to attend.
I made an appointment with Tousled in the hopes that Rita would be able to perform some magic and make my hair grow back. Sadly her powers are not at that level :o) but Rita was incredibly sympathetic and listened to my sad story and as she always does she was honest and candid about my hair (nightmare) and what she would need to do to fix it. I was a wreck. I was stressed, anxious, depressed and now gun (or should I say scissor) shy. I am used to short hair but now I had to cut even more off to fix the mess that some silly little girl made. Rita understood completely how I felt but shorter was the only way to fix it. Wellā¦.It has been almost 3 weeks since I saw Rita and even in this short amount of time it has grown out enough to truly appreciate that this is a GREAT cut !!! I have received multiple compliments and am finally de-stressing and feeling FINE !!
The 'haircut' is always important but having someone like Rita, with her softspoken, honest and talented self to help you thru a very bad period is a godsend. There are people who just do the work and then there are those that LOVE the work and Rita is most definitely the latter. So thank you Rita. You did right by me and I thank you for taking my ācrisisā personally and making it better. I will see you and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been a client of Ritaās (the owner of Tousled) for over 20 years, and I cannot say enough positive things about her, her team and the professionalism with which she runs her business.
**First: Rita is probably the most talented and consistently excellent colorist I have encountered. She is extremely detail oriented and takes cares with every motion. I am naturally a dark blonde/medium- to light brunette and have been getting blonde high- and low-lights for years. Not only is her work flawless, but few people can even tell that I get my hair colored: it is such a natural compliment to my skin tone, and blends in so beautifully with my natural hair color even when my roots come in. As I have gotten more grays over the years, she has made recommendations to adjust the tone or the color, and the effect is even more phenomenal than I could have expected. And the Aveda product is much gentler for your hair than other color treatments.
**Also: My hair is thin and mostly straight with a slight natural wave in certain areas, and Rita is able to navigate these details with ease every time I get a trim or a full cut. My hair always feels fuller and healthier when I leave, and sheās done a great job of showing me different ways to style it as I get older and the texture of my hair changes.
**Added Bonus: Her staff is kind, thoughtful and super helpful. They truly love their customers, and the simple fact that they have so many who have been clients for years and years is a testament to that. Not to mentionā¦.her French bulldog Deion is the adorable and friendly brand mascot who keeps everyone feeling very at home and very taken care of.
**Last note: I got married in October 2023 and several guests who had not met my side of the family commented how I was āthe only blonde in a family of brunettes,ā and I giggled to myself. If that isnāt a reason to have Rita do your hair, I donāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo I went past this salon the other day and remembered the first and only time I went there. It was about 3 years ago , I was still postpartum and havenāt gotten my hair professionally done since my daughter was a month old. I booked to go for a curly cut and was even more excited because it was black owned and the owner had the cutest dog and the friendliest staff. Rita and I chatted about she showed the aveda products she was going to use as well as her own products. Iāve used aveda before and it works great with my 3b 3c hair. Long story short she did my cut and attempted to style my hair but honestly I look the same way I looked when I walked in, after looking in the mirror I wanted a bonnet or a pony tail ASAP her staff was all wowwww you look great but I could tell it wasnāt genuine, they saw what I saw too š¤¦šæāāļø. Then the Rita the owner/stylist asked me if I wanted a braid on the side like it would make my hair look better or even moisturized.(I had a treatment too and still looked bad) I said no then pretended like I was in a rush and someone was waiting for me because I was embarrassed by how it turned out and I didnāt like the way they acted like everything was fine and saying I I looked āgreatā. I paid over $100 and left and never looked back. Going past there again brought back that memory of how I wanted to feel like me again almost a year after having my child , just to waste over $100 I couldāve just saved. Customer service was great but shocked to know that a black owned salon doesnāt know how to treat 3b/3c hair. Even more that taking my Money was more important than telling me she knew she did a terrible job. I follow the Instagram page and understand why now why I walked out the way I did....
