As a former employee there, I will advise that the way they treat their employees is unfair. They lack communication and as well with understanding. The current manager and as well with her boss, both decided that my availability wasn’t working but somehow worked for another former employee that worked there for YEARS whom already quit so i took his hours but apparently couldn’t work with me. Also, told me that they were planning on hiring a new employee but within that time will contact me if they do not find another employee but if they do they will “let me go”. This job became very unprofessional once the store manager started working there which was a month or so ago. She never communicated with me letting me know that my availability wasn’t working, took a walk with me and had a nice conversation letting me know that she will work with me and never once told me that she would have to “let me go” if i do not have a better availability. If you plan on working here, some employees are extremely understanding but as for the new store manager I will have to say she is unprofessional and disrespectful. If anyone has any questions or wants more information, i will be able to...
Read moreAs a French citizen living in Jersey City, I used to be a loyal customer of Choc O Pain. I especially love their Galette des Rois, the King's Cake, which is specifically made for Epiphany. But I recently ordered one for pickup and was really disappointed. Indeed, I tried to eat a slice after reheating 5 min at 425°F in the bag, as the given instructions. But the layers of the dough were not fully cooked on the inside. So, while eating, it was really chewy, and the butter was also dripping all over my fingers! So I decided to cook it longer for 10 min at 400°F and let it rest for 5 min. But same result, the butter was dripping too much, making the Galette too oily to be edible. I had to throw it away. I didn't expect that, especially at this price ($35). Luckily, I didn't have guests to serve for the traditional hidden prize. This is uncharacteristic of the quality of their products, though.
Update from Feb 19th, 2023 I really appreciated the offer. Thanks a lot Choc o Pain for giving me a new Galette des Rois. This time, it was perfectly cooked and I finally got the taste that I was looking for! I will definitely buy another...
Read moreOrdered via Uber Eats, ran into a couple of issues :
Two of the four items I ordered was out - one Jambon and Emmentel Sandwich & four Chouquettes - but an employee called before fulfilling my order, explained and offered options to replace or cancel. Up until this point, experience was ok - I get it, foods run out. Employee offered madeleines in place of chouquettes, which I agreed, and I asked to cancel the sandwich order, which I was told I’d receive a refund for. After we hung up, I’ve received no further information from neither the bakery nor Uber Eats. Maybe this is an Uber Eats experience issue? Only been a day so maybe this will get resolved but so far I feel like I’ve just paid for an item I didn’t receive.
Of the four madeleines I received in place of the chouquettes they were out of, I found a string of hair baked into the cake itself - looks like it made its way in the batter and was baked with it in in… this seems like a food safety concern. I’m not sure if they get their baked goods baked in the shop or get it supplied from a factory bakery but was a bit shocking - I’d be hesitant to order...
