Stepping into WÜRSTBAR on a recent Tuesday evening, I instantly was smitten with an authentic vibe of bonhomie and sublime autumn décor including Hallowe'en-friendly touches. No sooner than I was greeted by the congenial servers and bartender did I begin wafting on an aroma that whetted my appetite. Met with a bright smile, I removed my mask to reciprocate with mine, and then I got down to business: studying the menu and nearby patrons tucking into their meals and swishing down beer. Ahhh, but the menu ...
I'd come for a grilled brat but now was shamelessly salivating over selections such as poutine, chicken sandwiches, and burgers. Make no mistake, though: My eyeballs repeatedly roamed over the menu's sections of brats and franks.
WÜRSTBAR's chill music and sensual lighting set the stage for a fall feast. I love this gastropub's intimate vibe despite a huge loft space filled with friends, co-workers and dates gathered at wooden tables. Singletons such as I received as much attention as the groups -- and everyone was encouraged to seat themselves where they desired. If I'd wanted only a beverage and a light meal, I'd have opted to sit at the fine bar. But I was wearing my elastic-waist pants, so I was ready to throw down!
Without an iota of self-consciousness, and with a near-empty tummy, I proceeded to order multiple meals -- half of them to go. There in WÜRSTBAR, I nursed a glass of rosé and lingered lovingly over my big bowl of "Haus Poutine" featuring layers of superb "Haus Cut" fries, tender chunks of fried chicken and delightful mac ' cheese via al dente corkscrew pasta. Barely taking a breath, I dove into a boat of crispy fried chicken wings (instead of a BBQ coating, I requested my BBQ sauce on the side ... wish granted!🪄). All my savories were so delectable, and the other patrons were so alive, that I forgot about my stressful workday.
I strongly recommend that all of you give WÜRSTBAR more than one try. The food, ambience and service are top-notch at an intersection of urban savvy and small-town charm. However, I urge you to visit sooner rather than later because of the delightful fall specials. I ordered the pumpkin brownie as my culinary finale (OMG, that pumpkin-spice mousse, tho'), which might or might not still be offered after October's end. Pour emporter, I ordered: a buttermilk-chicken sandwich (the next day, that yummy sandwich had my eyes flippin' ... mmmm) and crispy sweet potato gnocci with Gruyère cheese. What?! That's right; I said it. Now you repeat it your heart skips a beat. First off, Gruyère, whether the cow is in Switzerland or France, is my favorite cheese (followed by Cheddar, brie and ementhaler). I implore the new chef -- a tour de force -- at WÜRSTBAR to keep the pumpkin brownie as a fall special until (at least) December 20th.
As for any deficiencies: I would suggest that gravy options (vegetarian, chicken and beef) be offered for the poutines. After all, is it really poutine without the existence of hot gravy poured over cheese curds to melt them? Or is this my bias as a decades-long vacationer in Québec province? Je ne sais pas. ... Lastly, I would suggest that the section of floor nearest the wall at the center of the resto -- past the bar -- be leveled. My chair repeatedly slid back, to the point that there was too much distance between me and the table. I found it slightly annoying to need to scooch forward in my chair in roughly 15-minute intervals.
My overall autumn-supper experience at WÜRSTBAR was...
Read moreI meant to write this review sooner. I loved this place! The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how empty it was. I was there on a Tuesday but it was like 9pm and so close to NYC. We were the only 2 people at first. After spending some time there the only reason I can think of for the empty seats is that no one knows about this place yet(it's only been open a few months). I don't have one bad thing to say about them but I have 1000 great things! We hunted down this place originally because they had bottles of a limited release beer that we wanted badly enough to drive from philly to get (for all u beer nerds, it was Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break and it was worth it!). Their tap list(and bottles), in general, was amazing! I had so much great beer from great breweries. This will likely be a craft beer lovers mecca in the future. Our bartender, Andrew, was great. You could tell he really didn't know that much about craft beer which normally would be a bit of a detractor but instead of dodging our questions about certain beers or trying to fake it he poured himself little tastes of some of the beers we were drinking and talked to us about them. He wanted to hear our opinions and learn more so he could become more knowledgeable for the future. I loved this about him! It was my favorite part of my experience here. He was very cool too. The food was def on par with the beer and the prices were crazy low! They have brats and sausages mostly with some sides. I couldn't believe how much food we got for that price. The portions are normal but we were able to try different a few different brats. Some of them were quite exotic like rabbit sausage. We also got a side of poutine. I forget which brats we ended up having but they were killer and not overly greasy. The decor and overall vibe was relaxed but still trendy. This definitely isn't a dive bar. Very clean. The beer and brat selection might not make it the best place to take a really girly girl on a date but for chicks like me, this would be the perfect night out. I expect Wurstbar to really pick up in business as more and more people find out about it. It's like something you would find in NYC but with better prices and...

Unbelievable Weenies/Dogs and Adult Juice!
Here in Toronto, we have our own local favourite Wurst restaurant specializing in modern German sausages/bratwurst - but this bar is next level.
The atmosphere is great - it has a speakeasy feeling to it and has an ultra hipster vibe.
Food: Here in Canada, we pride ourselves in our poutine (fries, gravy, cheese curds) but their Ramen poutine is phenomenal! I loved the size of the fries that were cut and fried perfectly. The ramen broth gravy didn't taste any different from other gravies but complemented the fries fine. The fried ramen crisps gave the poutine a needed contrast of textures. I would love to try the other poutines in the future.
They had a very extensive amount of options for their sausages and hot dogs. They don't just have one protein type of sausage and change up the toppings, they actually have venison (deer), chicken, duck and classic pork meats for their sausages. I tried the Hunting Season Sausage which comes with caramelized onions, apricot relish stuffed in a nice brioche style bun/bread. Great balance of sweetness and savouriness - the venison sausage was also not game-y taste at all.
Drinks: What's most attractive about this place is their endless options of beers and ciders. Literally, you can sit there for 10 minutes deciding what you want for drinks. But you don't have to - just ask the bartender or waiter for some guidance. In Ontario, we produce quite an excellent variety of ciders and cider beers. Some of our local restaurants are cider-focused and really try feature these cider beer products - even so, it does not compare to the quality and variety that this bar offers.
They also have a few cocktails that are cider based - really cool! They also have the classic cocktails such as the Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and...
