Came here for dinner on a Thursday evening. It's a small and cosy place where there is one person who does everything -- cooks, cleans, and waits on tables.
I will preface this review by stating that I respect the man for running his own restaurant despite his apparent disability. However, I would be doing him and the rest of the world a disservice if I were to write a review that is any different out of "pity".
Ordered the crepe, some noodle thing, some rice dish and another dish that I do not even remember. I do not recommend anything. The rice in particular was undercooked. This is a remarkable achievement unto itself since usually you just need a rice cooker to cook it and no special skill.
We were warned the food would be spicy. Unfortunately, it was not spicy and ultimately had no taste. It also arrived lukewarm and despite ordering four dishes for four people, I was still hungry afterwards. Portion size, taste, freshness were all disapointing.
Somehow despite the exoirbitant price tag, two of the four members of our party suffered from upset stomachs the next day. That's something else to watch out for.
The man running the shop is doing the best he can, but service would really be improved if he just went ahead and hired another person to help him. Service takes way too long to take our orders, to get the food, and to pay.
Unfortunately out here the first choice of payment is Venmo. I do not want to pay with Venmo, I want the transaction listed on my credit card just like it is for every single other restaurant. These are additional transaction costs present for no reason.
Thankfully the ambience and cleanliness was excellent. There are many cute stuffed toys all over, and the toilet was spotless and clean.
This place was a massive disappointment despite the high hopes I had. Expensive and at the end still hungry. Will not be...
Read moreEchoing all the other reviews - phenomenal food (the crab cake in particular was amazing), excellent service from the one employee who acts as host, server, chef, and busser. Since he is the only employee, he can get overwhelmed quickly - you might be waiting a while if there are a lot of diners there. To help anyone reading to understand the menu - basically you pick a "base" (crepe, one of three types of soup noodle, pad thai, or wild rice) and then choose your protein. For whatever reason, the protein list for pad thai and for rice is lumped together at the bottom. The "rice berry" name is also confusing, it doesn't actually have berries nor is it sweet. It's basically a red/purple mix of different types of rice, and it's good. Also note that it's not a typical pad thai - the chef uses angel hair pasta, and a different blend of flavors. The man is from Thailand but does his own spin on pad thai (and it works). The sweets/dessert side of the menu is also inert. I believe the owner said he offered them in the first week of business, but quickly found it overwhelming (can't blame him). At least on the day I went, he didn't offer anything from that side of the menu. Overall, a very hole-in-the-wall feeling, which is often where you find the best food, and that is certainly the case here. Give it a try if you're in the area, just expect to have to wait a bit especially if it's...
Read moreAfter reading all the positive reviews, I decided to give this charming restaurant a try. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised by the immaculate cleanliness, though the minimalist decor caught me off guard. As I pondered whether I was in the right place, the owner, Mr. Vichkulwrapan, greeted us with such warmth that it instantly put a smile on my face - a rare and welcome experience in today's dining scene. Despite some mixed reviews about the food, I can confidently say that this place serves some of the most exquisite Thai cuisine I've ever tasted. The flavors are bold, authentic, and truly unforgettable, easily rivaling my previous favorite, V{IV}. We ordered the Tom Yum chicken noodle soup and the crab cake Pad Thai, both of which were absolutely delicious. Mr. Vichkulwrapan's friendly demeanor, boundless energy, and genuine happiness are infectious, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining experience. His passion for his craft is evident in every aspect of the food. It’s presented very well and the flavors really burst in your mouth. It's worth noting that as a one-man operation, the service may require a bit of patience. For those in a hurry, calling ahead for takeout is an option. However, I strongly recommend dining in to fully appreciate the atmosphere and interact with the delightful owner. this little restaurant is a...
