I live in Kingsport and have a friend that grew up in Jonesboro. I’ve never been to the cute little town before this 2024 “May the 4th be with you” festival. With it being my first time experiencing this, I was new to the whole thing. While I enjoyed my time in Jonesboro, I DID NOT appreciate or enjoy the way I was treated at Boone Street market that day. Long story short (I’ll try and make it short at least) I found they had some freeze dried candies- my son has braces and had been begging me to get him some. Since he was out of town I had to choose the type he’d want on my own- not an easy choice lol. Anyway- I picked up the skittles and heavily contemplated the pink “nerds type” gummy puffs with sprinkles on them. I picked both bags up and went looking for the friend I came with- she was up front sampling the same pink type candy I was contemplating buying that was in my hands. I was like- COOL! I can try them and then decide if I want to invest like $10 or $12 into these things. When I went to look at the tray of “samples” I was RUDELY interrupted by the man “managing” the table. He quickly told me you had to have an “event ticket” for them. I immediately was embarrassed and put the candy back on the shelf. My friend was shocked at his response to me because she said she asked the man for one and he said “sure” (she didn’t have an event ticket) and let her have it. She had zero intentions of buying anything that day- and was simply waiting by the door for me to finish getting what I wanted. And you sit there and raise your voice at me abruptly- a paying customer!? I wasn’t even touching them- I just looked and got fussed at. I still purchased the skittle freeze dried but later regretted it because I felt I shouldn’t have supported the business at all after being treated like that. I will certainly be back to Jonesboro, but NOT to Boone Street Market. It’s unfortunate my son will never get to experience the freeze dried candy selection here. Y’all need to do better at treating customers fair and with a better attitude. Just know you lost a good portion of the sale that day & every future purchase I could have made with my family. First time and last time I’ll ever be in this store. Thank you to the rest of Jonesboro for your kindness! Tennesse Hills had a wonderful group of people...
Read moreI love and support the mission of offering products from local and regional farmers and producers. I regularly shop the local Saturday Farmer's Market in season, and purchase local meat, bakery, preserves, dog treats, and produce there and at other local small businesses.
The kitchen- The two experiences I've had thus far were disappointing. Tried Burger Night, had a small (aprox 1/4 lb) bacon cheeseburger (no sides included) that was just ok for about $13. The bluegrass duet outside was nice. Went to the Winter Market outside recently (great idea and vendors), purchased a small container of biscuits & gravy with two dense biscuits & lukewarm, unremarkable gravy for $7.44. I may try other items, and I'll be sure to share if I have a better experience.
The Store- I buy bags of locally roasted coffee here, two Jonesborough roasters sell 12 oz. bags for $14, one regional roaster sells a full pound bag for about the same. Smokin' J's hot sauces from NC, and several other items are good and not crazy expensive. Funny story (sort of), last year I bought a small container of Christmas cookies for about $6 not realizing they were gluten-free vegan. They looked so good, but tasted like sawdust! If you prefer old fashioned cookies with real butter, sugar, milk, wheat flour, and eggs, etc., don't be like me, instead read the label before you buy. They offer free-range, sustainably farmed, humanely treated frozen turkeys from a local farm for $8.99 per lb. That's $144.96 for a medium 15 lb frozen turkey, or $96.73 for a small 10 lb frozen turkey (incl sales tax). I understand local farms can't compete with corporate store chains and factory farms, and it's probably a better product.
Boone Street Market is a "non-profit", yet the prices on meats, poultry, cheese, and other artisan products make them luxury purchases from my perspective. Sustaining the earth, being ethical, and producing clean, healthy foods is very important. Sustaining the local economy and putting food on the table is vital. Hope we can...
Read moreThe man behind the counter who spoke with the foreign accent made me feel as though it were socialist country and treated me quite abruptly. No warmth or courtesy like you would expect here in the south. I love Tennessee I wish he were more Tennessee. Tennessee people are so genteel in nature.I love the idea about supporting our local farmers. I love that so much. This place left me feeling as though I was supporting a whole other country with the music and the people that were servicing the place. Not even American. I wish they would play country music to give that local flavor. I'll go to...
