Had brought out of town guest for lunch. It was OK to good, staff was not attentive but they were somewhat nic, the cashier smiled anyway. My husband and I had lunch here last wk - it was just awful. My husband, who never complains, first commented on how rude the staff was: girl taking the order definitely acted as if it was a bother to take our order. I said "Hello" & she snapped "What?" I just looked at her and repeated what I said but this time I wasn't as cheerful... we waited near 20 min for the 1st Ave Sal and a tuna salad croissant: BOTH SALADS ARE QUICK TICKET TIME ORDERS -- took way to long to arrive at the table. The food runner dropped the food w/out a word. And I mean "Dropped" (not a word, not a recognition that we were even sitting at the table - she was just ugly in personality - "rude" is a kind word to use. My husband then asked me "Can I bring you anything?" With the added ?? To me of - "were they this unfriendly before?" His tuna was very mayonnaise-y and this apparently was the predominant flavor (even over the tuna!!) & the croissant was very dry. He left near 1/2 of his food uneaten.. My 1st Ave Salad - well, 3/4 of it was left in the bowl - it was just GROSS! Not one cranberry was in the salad, the supposedly spiced/sweet walnuts were as plain flavored as possible, the chicken was near impossible to find, so thin that it was shredding and it was SLIMEY!!. It, what I could find of it, was just not edible. I had to dig and dig through the salad to try and find the meat and when I did, even it's appearance made the effort fruitless. I doubt the rude/unhappy staff would have touched this salad themselves. There were so many blobs of the blue cheese (& it was wet, as if soaked in water) on this salad (& I like blue cheese alot - but not wet blue cheese) it was as if the cook thought "I will load it up with big blobs of this wet blue cheese and they won't notice the slimey, no flavor, paper thin bit of chicken, or miss the cranberries or notice the non flavored walnuts..." The lack of table awareness wasn't just given to us...I looked around and people waiting for food sat with empty drink glasses for long periods of time from when they emptied their water glasses until their food came. Speaking of drinks, our citrus tea was room temp. It was served with very little ice (I counted 5 cubes, no kidding) and we could never get anyone to bring us ice as the staff wouldn't approach to see if we needed any thing. Even after I caught a server's eye - she just looked right through me --- ICED TEA IS SERVED BEST VERY COLD AND WITH ICE - hence, the name of the drink... The bad, inedible food is one thing but the rudeness and total lack of concern regarding the customer from EVERY staff member is something else. NOT ONCE WERE WE ASKED if we needed anything, if lunch was good... - the entire experience sucked & was an embarrassment. We even made a point to not hit the Cafe at the peak lunch hr - we arrived around 2:00-2:15ish. The majority of tables were actually finishing up so there was no excuse for the staff's being so rude and non-proffessional or for the food being served as it was. Tip: DON'T TIP until leaving, leave cash on the table. They surely did not deserve the 25% tip that was given at the time of payment. They deserved nothing. As no one seems to care about the guest here at this cafe we know (can tell by the "there are only a couple places to eat here so we can be as awful as we want" attitude) that we won't be back. There is another place across the street that is pretty good, we will go there next time we want to grab a local bite. Thanks for taking our money and giving a horrible lunch...
Read moreNestled in the heart of historic downtown Jonesborough, we were introduced to the Main Street Cafe by our real estate agents 2 months ago. The decor embraces its historic roots with authentic antique wooden booths and original tin ceiling tiles. The tall paned windows accentuate the long hanging schoolhouse lights and curated accent pieces with just a hint of boujee flair.
The cafe's menu is well thought out with options for both omnivores and vegetarians, including special items such as desserts, craft beer and wine selections, creatively handwritten on large chalkboards by someone with an artistic gift for chalkmanship! When you first enter, you'll notice instructions to order first and pay before securing a table. This is more than understandable when you see the continuous flow of customers, but we've never had a problem finding a place to sit. By the way, you will see a tip screen when you pay. Tip generously - the table staff are some of the best: great attitudes, attentive at keeping your beverage refilled and quick to respond to requests.
On today's visit, my husband had his favorite, the 'Borough Burger' with bacon and cheese and I tried the 'Breezy' (mesquite smoked turkey, grilled mushrooms, garlic aioli and melted cheese on an 8" hoagie roll). Both were served with a pickle spear and Kettle chips. Mukisa was our server and checked on us regularly to be sure we had everything we needed. (Thank you, Mukisa!) The burger was excellent (as always), but my grilled hoagie "Breezy" is my new favorite! The blend of smoky/earthy flavors beneath that melty-cheesy goodness is nothing short of culinary excellence on a fresh hoagie bun! This! It's why we keep...
Read moreI had a wedding with Main Street Catering on May 18th. Going into the wedding I heard that main street was awesome. I heard that they were the people to go to. I had several meetings with Breelyn and everything seemed to be going great. About a week before the wedding we get a call from her saying that she isn't actually going to be at the wedding, shes just going to send some of her servers there. We had talked about everything that was going to happen and I just assumed that she would have told them and everything would be fine. Well, we get to the reception site after the ceremony and its raining and the caterer has the hors d'oeuvres set up outside away from everyone who is under the tent, the decorations that we were told breelyn would bring were not there, and the fruit platter that was supposed to be out for hors d'oeuvres was no where to be found. The food was cheap and not good, and the servers took 20 minutes to set up for the toast. Having a good caterer is so important to making the wedding run smoothly. If you are looking for that then don't go with Main Street. I felt like my wedding was so unorganized. The one good thing about them, however, is that they make...
