A Truly Memorable Dining Experience at the Hanger on the Wharf – A Must-Visit in Juneau!
After a day of exploring the beauty of Juneau, my daughter and I were looking for a great seafood spot, and we found an absolute gem in the Hanger on the Wharf. This place truly lives up to its reputation, offering not just fantastic food but also a warm, welcoming atmosphere that made our dining experience unforgettable.
I ordered the halibut and chips, and let me tell you, it was perfection on a plate! The fish was incredibly fresh, with a light, crispy batter that wasn’t too heavy, allowing the halibut’s delicate flavor to shine through. Each bite was delicious, and the fries were perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. It’s easily some of the best halibut I’ve had in Alaska.
My daughter opted for the halibut chowder served in a bread bowl, and she couldn't stop raving about it. The chowder was rich, creamy, and packed with fresh halibut chunks. The bread bowl added a fun twist, soaking up all that delicious broth. She’s usually a picky eater, but she finished every last bite!
We couldn’t leave without trying dessert, and we were so glad we did. We shared the apple pie-style dessert, which was the perfect end to an amazing meal. The apples were perfectly spiced, with a warm, buttery crust and a scoop of ice cream on the side. It was the kind of dessert that feels like a hug in every bite.
Aside from the food, the service was excellent. Our server was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home from the moment we sat down. The portions were generous, the food was fresh, and despite the high quality, the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the location and the amazing waterfront views.
Whether you're a local or just visiting Juneau, I can’t recommend the Hanger on the Wharf enough. The combination of great food, excellent service, and a relaxed, inviting atmosphere made this one of the best dining experiences of our trip. We’ll definitely be coming back the next time...
Read moreThe food was excellent here. We were referred to this place through our friend, who has a colleague that grew up in Juneau.
The atmosphere was cool, but because it was busy it was super noisy. If you know that going in, the atmosphere should be a good fit.
The service the evening we went was atrocious. I don't know if this is normal for this place, or what. We had a 20 minute wait for a table, which I never mind. When the hostess sat us, I immediately realized I had to go back to a shop over near the tram because they had over charged me for something. I told my wife and friends what to order for me before I got back. I was gone for close to 20 minutes, and When I was about 2 minutes away from returning, my wife texted and told me they still hadn't even seen a server yet. I told her I would stop by the hostess stand on the way in, to let them know we need to see a server, If I hadn't heard from them by then. My wife texted me as I was walking back into the building and said they finally saw a server. Multiple times while the server was running around being super busy, we looked over to see the hostess is doing absolutely nothing. I've worked in restaurant before... If the floor is insanely busy, the hostesses should be helping. At one point we ran out of water and were waiting on the server, and it took another 10 minutes to get a refill.
It took about 20 total minutes to get food, from the time we ordered, so this puts us at about an 40 minutes from the time we sat down.
Long story short, great food, noisy atmosphere, and service that left us wanting. If you are on a timeline, and it's...
Read moreAug 2, 2025 we went to Juneau to Celebrate our 45th Wedding anniversary. Every year we choose a different restaurant and fly there. We had a few choices in Juneau but settled on The Hanger. They did not disappoint! No, it’s not a fancy dress up place or even very romantic unless you love Airplanes as much as I do! After 45 years, I think my wife and I have figured it out. I had the Grilled Halibut, she the Macadamia crusted Halibut and the consensus was….. Fresh Halibut should be eaten simply grilled with butter! Don’t get me wrong, she also enjoyed the Macadamia, however it masked the wonderful flavor of the Halibut. Oh yeah, we also ordered 1 pound of King Crab just to top it all off. Delicious. We had reservations for a window with a view, which we showed up a bit early for, but within 15 minutes we were at our table enjoying the view. “Tag Teamed” by a Mother and Daughter waitress team, (Sorry you guys I didn’t write down your names but I’m sure the establishment can get you the accolades you deserve). We were never without great service and they didn’t even know it was a special occasion! Once Mom found out, she removed the Cream Brule from our ticket even though I insisted she didn’t. Make a reservation, however they wait isn’t bad if you don’t and the Bar is always open!!! Worth any wait. Thanks again John & Trish...
