I am going to start off by just fully disclosing that I am totally and 100% biased towards Wings Airways because my husband and i got MARRIED out at Taku Glacier Lodge this past April and our experience with Wings was so far above and beyond any hope or expectation.
First off, we planned our entire wedding in TWO months and two days, and we happened to be planning it around the very beginning of Wings’ summer flying season while they were prepping staff and training pilots. Our wedding also happened to be the very first Otter trip out to the lodge this past 2024 season - they totally went out of their way to make this happen for us! The planning and considerations of the staff over at Wings Airways was so SO appreciated. Sean (husband) and I had 15 wedding guests piled in two airplanes, and when we arrived at the airplanes on wedding day, Wings staff had even unexpectedly decorated the inside of the Otters for us! We felt SO loved the way they went over the top and took care of us - from decorating the airplanes to scoping out the best location at the actual lodge for us to have our ceremony (they found the only little snow-less patch of grass for us with the stunning glacier backdrop :))
Our wedding day was so magical and perfect, and all the puzzle pieces coming together so beautifully and seamlessly was due to Wings Airways’ own Holly, Arne, Samantha, Dave, Don, Matt, and Rebecca. It evidently is a big family over at Wings, and we without a doubt felt that!!
So although our experience with Wings Airways goes a little deeper than some others, I 101% recommend taking your next trip with them! You’re not flying with a company, you’re flying with a family, and they will treat you as such. And the beautiful country the pilots have the opportunity of showing you on their flight tours as well as the lodge experience is truly once-in-a-lifetime - even more so if you get married there ;)
Thank you Wings Airways for the overwhelming love you showed Sean and I. P.S. The champagne gift made for an absolutely wonderful downtown-photos...
Read moreFor me this is a "must do" when traveling to Juneau Alaska.
I have been to Juneau 2x by ship and each time I have taken the Wings Airways and taku Glacier Lodge experience. I enjoyed it so much the first time that I made it a special trip to take my grandchildren just so they could experience this. How many times in your life do you get to travel on a float plane which takes off from the oceans waters and then lands on glacier river water in the wilds of Alaska? Now add the magnificent scenery and food that you will experience while you are there. This is a must-do.
Your float plane is either a deHavilland Otter or a Beaver. These are aircraft which are so sought after that even used they go for seven figures. So if you are a plane that like me then you must do it just for this experience alone. Your trip takes off from the port Juneau near the cruise ships. You fly over the land and sea and get to see glaciers Rivers Forest and streams. You here through your earphones a narration of the lodge and the area.
On Landing the plane on to a dock and go to the lodge. You hear more of the history of the lodge and how it came to be. It is a classic Alaskan cabin made of rough hewn Timbers hand decorated with animal hides and skulls as one may expect in this rustic environment.
The food they serve you as anything but rustic. It is the freshest salmon you'll ever meet your life. They fish it out of the waters and serve it up fresh and hot. Please come hungry. You don't want to waste a bit of time more money by not consuming this wonderful meal.
Explore the grounds and surrounding area, but keep an eye out for wildlife bears do it habit the area and we saw them on both of our visits.
This is really something you have to experience at least once in your life if you go to...
Read moreOn Aug 10, 2024. This company ruined our Alaska trip. Carnival Cruise informed us on Aug 6 that our 08:30 Taku Lodge trip was cancelled due to weather but assured us that we could go with the 10:30 trip. We are family of 3. Me, my husband and 5 year old child. On Aug 9, I double checked with Carnival cruise , they said they informed Wings Airways in the email regarding us being in the final count for the 7 people going to Taku Lodge. On Aug 10, we checked in with Wings Airways at 10am. They checked our weights. Then gave us tickets for the Eagles plane. We waited in line until 10:50. We saw the seaplane coming in. All of a sudden, the staff called us, and told us that they overbooked. She said we couldn't go. They blamed the carnival cruise saying our names were not included. They lied. They just let other people that wasn't even on the list. And just decided that the three of us should not be included. It could be because of our race (we're Asian) or because my 5 year old child's ticket was cheaper. I told Carnival cruise about what happened and they said that our names were on the list from the very beginning. In fact there was another 1 passenger who wanted to do the tour, and that passenger just booked it the day before. That passenger was able to do the tour but not us. They wasted our precious time while in Juneau by having us wait for the seaplane when we couldn't even fly in. It was a year of planning for our part. A year's worth of going to work so we could have enough time to get vacation leave. A years worth to do what we always wanted, to see the glaciers of Alaska. We were celebrating our 22nd Anniversary and birthday of my kid. This...
