We went here on our cruise stop. This was the second restaurant we went to that day. We had an eight-hour-long stop. Admittedly this wasn't the first restaurant we stopped at. We went to Tracy king crab as it was right off the dock. While Tracys wasn't terrible it was great either. Their food was bland and small portioned. I normally share with my husband and child everywhere we go as I have the lap band surgery and we were still pretty hungry leaving there. We walked through the town and stumbled upon this restaurant and it was just phenomenal! The food was amazing and worth the short walk down the pier. The popcorn shrimp basket was huge and the halibut sandwich my husband ordered was amazing (I don't like fish at all but as we were in Alaska I thought I would give it a shot and take a tiny bite and even I loved it!) We did order two separate meals as we were afraid the portions would also be small. We paid less for two meals and got triple the amount of food than at Tracy's. We even took plenty back on the cruise ship for later. We also had an amazing server named Maria I do believe. She was so friendly and kind. She sat and talked to us and made us feel very welcome. We even stopped by the knife shop her and her husband own next door. If you are stopping in Juneau it is well worth taking your time and not stopping at the first restaurant you see. Take a small walk down the pier and find this place. It's right near where the planes board on the water so we also had some fun with my baby...
Read moreTo start, the wait was very, very long to order your food/drinks, to then get your food, and then to get the check to be able to pay and leave. I believe they were severely understaffed like most restaurants nowadays. I saw one woman taking orders for everyone outside. The table next to us ended up leaving due to the wait time. We are patient and don't mind waiting. However, if you have an excursion to be at, then I wouldn't recommend coming here without having a more open time-frame. We were told that we could go inside ourselves and refill our drinks if we wanted another round (iced tea). We sat outside along the water and watched the planes take off. It was a beautiful atmosphere to experience. We ordered coco shrimp, dog bites, and boom boom shrimp. All of which was really delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed. The biggest issue was being so understaffed while being slammed with tourist season just kicking off for the town. The turn-around time from sitting down and eventually paying and leaving was probably almost 1.5 hours. Considering we had no alcohol and just the 3 appetizers with iced teas, it was a tad long for not a very extravagant order. It's also extremely convenient to walk to after getting...
Read moreThe server was trying to accommodate a group of 13 people. She did her job well. The food was another story. I ordered the Halibut Fish and Chips. I wanted the chowder instead of the fries. Everything that was ordered instead of came with a hidden cost. Extra tarter came with a hidden cost. My halibut was dry, sat under the heat for too long. And to top it off I had two pieces that was double cooked, that makes the fish tough like jerky. I truly understand that not wanting to waste the fish but seriously do a better job of cooking.
The chowder, I was expecting clam chowder but it was smoke salmon chowder. I believe it could be potato based but not really sure. Maybe water, cornstarch and something to give an orangeish hue. Nonetheless it was bland and didn’t have any salmon in the soup but instead it was garnished with bits of smoke salmon on top. Not good.
The tartar sauce was mayo with dill relish and sparse with dill weed. Nothing really spectacular just tasted like Mayo.
I have owned 3 seafood restaurants in Alaska over the course of 35 years and I must say this was the worst I have ever tasted.
But what does it really matter; they serve one time customers anyways.
NOT RECOMMENDED. ...
