Visited this location in December to have my wedding set inspected and cleaned. Upon arrival they were closed for lunch. No big deal, I understand. I waited for about 20 minutes and returned to the store. Upon entering, I was greeted by a younger man. When I told him what I needed he seemed annoyed and proceeded to tell me that he was unable to clean my ring at this time. I asked about my inspection. He pulls out his tablet, I hand him my ring and he lays it on the counter. NEVER even looks at it. Proceeds to enter my information into the tablet and then gives my ring back and says, "ok, you're all set." I thought it was strange seeing as how he never even looked at it but wanted to give him the benefit of doubt that maybe I wasn't due for an inspection and he just noted it on the account.
Fast forward to yesterday and I visit the Kay's at Oak Park mall. To my surprise the employee at this location confirmed that he HAD marked the ring as inspected in December. I understand that cleaning and inspections probably aren't the most fun thing to do. Especially when you aren't making a sale. However, my husband already spent the money for these services when he purchased the rings. Oak Park Kay's also said they get complaints about the Legends locations frequently. Please considered visiting another location where the employees actually care and are friendly rather than grumpy and dismissive.
Update: Visited this location again on 8/28 because I had an order to pick up from a store next to them. I had the exact same experience except the young lady did clean my ring. However, there was no actual inspection done for my warranty. I watched her place it in the cleaner, dry it off, and hand it back to me. My ring may not be important to them but it is to me. I will not be visiting this...
Read moreAfter waking up to a diamond missing from my wedding ring this morning, I called Kay Jewelers in Lawrence to discuss procedure and what to expect throughout the process of replacing the diamond and repairing my ring. The ring was purchased just over two years ago at a Kay Jewelers in Legends. My husband had paid an additional sum for the Lifetime Warranty. The woman I spoke with at the Lawrence location was short, unpleasant, and unhelpful. I opted to call the store in Legends.
Kay Jewelers (Lawrence, KS) was just the beginning of my nightmare. While the woman who I spoke with at the Legends store was a generally kind person, and likely would have helped if she could, Kay Jewelers' warranty program is a scam. Per the warranty agreement, the ring must be taken to a store once every six months to be inspected. I had taken the ring in to be cleaned on multiple occasions (more than twice a year), assuming it was also being inspected when taken to the back. Here's where they get you: at Kay Jewelers 'cleanings' are different from 'inspections.' Inspections have to be signed off on, entered into the system, etc. None of this was ever mentioned when we purchased the ring, or during the many cleanings we brought it in for. Needless to say, when I called today Kay Jewelers refused to cover the expense of the lost diamond. I took the ring to reputable local jeweler who found NINE loose diamonds. We will NEVER purchase another piece of jewelry from any Kay Jeweler location.
If you live in or near Lawrence, shop local! Kizer Cummings' level of customer service is unparalleled, their selection is stunning, and when you bring in a piece of jewelry to be cleaned, it is their standard protocol to...
Read moreWould absolutely never trust this place with my jewelry again. I sent in a very nice pair of gold earrings that have been in my family for a long time to be repaired. (The hinge was loose, making the earrings fall off easily.) After taking much longer than they told me, I went to pick up the earrings and they were all scratched and the hinge looked much different than the other earring. It looks silverish and looks like something I could have tried to jimmy-rig myself at home, definitely not something a jeweler would have worked on. I was still charged the full amount and when I expressed disappointment at the quality, was simply told that they could "maybe send it back and file it down some more". I wanted the earrings back as I was leaving the country for an extended period of time the next week and they could not guarantee that the earrings would be back. Basically they told me sorry. But you either pay us or we keep your $400 earrings. Super disappointed in both the quality of work and the customer service. Even called Kay's customer service right when I got home and the lady just told me "Sorry, nothing we can do. I'll talk to management though." Already told a couple friends today about my experience and I will continue to steer everyone I can away from this low...
