So, hubby and I are back at NFM in search of a sofa. We decided to try blind box BBQ as it's in the store on the street level. You order at the counter and they bring your order to you. Hubby had a 7oz BBQ ham sandwich with fries. I had the chicken tortilla soup and side salad. Fortunately, they also serve beer and cocktails. We opted for boulevard ipas. Hubby loved, loved, loved his sandwich! Perfect BBQ and the portion of meat was in overload! The fries? Meh. Kinda of soggy and tasted like frozen. My soup was served tepid (second time in a week, seeing a pattern here). Again, why isn't soup served hot? It was filled with chicken, red/green peppers, tortilla strips and shredded cheese. Avocado slices on top. Very pretty presentation, alas! Not so good. Very salty and the grease stayed on the sides of the bowl. Hard pass. The side salad was very plentiful and lots of vegetables for being a side salad. Definitely not a hard pass. The atmosphere is like a hospital cafeteria with commercial tables and chairs. There were tvs though blaring the sports games. The beers were icy cold and we got to wander around NFM with them while shopping. Bathroom was clean and a sheet noting check times to insure cleanliness was tacked on the door. I noted it had been checked hourly. 👏 while departing, I stopped at Sees candy and bought a box of chocolates for the parents. Food gets a 3 from me, hubby says 4. Atmosphere 2.5. Service a solid 5. The employees were hardworking, always busy and...
Read moreWe were visiting from Omaha and always love going to Joe’s for what is our idea of great BBQ. We were in the mall next door and thought we’d try this place.
Big mistake. It was a Tuesday afternoon, about 2pm, pretty much dead inside NFM and this restaurant. We waited for what seemed like half an hour to get our food, and when we got it it was pretty much at room temperature, other than the beans, which were nice and hot. The onion ring shavings were bland, the burnt ends were pretty much nothing more than lard cubes, no crispness, not burnt, no flavor. The brisket was room temp and bland, neither meat was anywhere even close to Joe’s in terms of quality of meat or flavor.
Ultimately I salvaged the meal by pouring their sauce over everything and squinting really hard while pretending I’m at Joe’s.
Portions were small, other than the onion ring things which took up a third of the platter. The meat was probably weighed to be within a milligrams of their specifications, cuz wouldn’t want the customer to get a bite more than they paid for (Unlike at Joe’s) and hurt their profits.
Ultimately I believe this is just another cash grab tie in to another big host, where expectations are lower and inferior parts are sent to be ‘disposed of’ on uncaring/hurried customers, at full price.
Would never visit this...
Read moreHonestly, I was really looking forward to going here.. The other location in Shawnee is sooo excellent so, I finally decided to try this one! At first glance, the food looked pretty good.. But then, I started to eat it.. And... Here we go folks... We ordered a lunch rib tip plate with fries, an onion straw starter, and Brisket nachos.. The Onion Straw starter came out with the rest of the food.. It was BARELY done.. Straws were hot but, kinda soggy.. No honey mustard or other sauce was given.. It's supposed to come with honey mustard standard. The Lunch Rib Tip Platter was COLD! And when I say cold, let's just say barely room temp.. The fries that came with were actually very good though.. The Brisket Nachos were more like regular nachos.. Of the little Brisket that was on there, the pieces were so small, you had to really look to see that there was meat on there.. Mostly crushed chips.. Very disappointed if anything, mostly because like I said, the location in Shawnee is so great! This is Kansas City! Bbq capital of the world! You would still think you were in Omaha at...
