I have been going to this Granite city since it opened and me and my wife hard our rehearsal dinner here in 2006. The food is always good, especially at brunch on Sundays. Unfortunately recent changes made by corporate have kind of made the experience less than welcoming. The mashed potatoes were removed from a Prime Rib buffet in Kansas, steak and potatoes just go together they need to be brought back. The eggs benedict station was removed which was often one of my wife's favorite food items. The hollandaise from the eggs benedict was also a really good sauce for the omelets when I would do a steak and egg combo mixing an omelet with prime rib and mashed potatoes. The chef special most of the time was really good and having a regular GC mac and the mixed mac to try something different was nice for an extra side. I like having the vegetables added back to the buffet, but the counter to that was asking for a side of asparagus, green beans, or Broccolini (which was my favorite and is now gone from the menu). I guess I will now have to start ordering a side of mashed potatoes with the buffet every Sunday since they should be there anyway. Another change I don't agree with was mixing all the fruit into one mixed fruit bowl, at the end when I get some fruit for desert it tasted like tropical fruit the flavors of pineapple, honeydew, and cantaloupe mixing into one flavor when I mostly just wanted a pineapple flavor. The fruit needs to be separated back into individual bowls instead of mixed into one bowl. On a final note the buffet was moved up against the back wall, it was down the middle of the restaurant allowing people to go down each side of the buffet. Reducing it to just one side and slowing the buffet down caused my prime rib to be cold (another disappointment) since I had to wait in line longer to get to the vegetables. If there were two lines I could pick the shorter one and get to the vegetables and back to my table while the prime rib was still warm. My wife noticed this getting some of her food as well. The one line caused things to move slower and her food didn't seem as warm and fresh as it usually does. I do not know who the corporate idiot or idiots were that thought these were the changes that needed to be made, but they need an education in restaurant management. These changes are in the long run going to cause a reduction in business from unsatisfied customers, a reduction in business from a slower buffet line and slower table turn over, a reduction in business from food quality loss from buffet to table, and with the reduction in table turn over will come an overall reduction in customers (possibly alcohol drinkers) further reducing the profitability and effectiveness of the buffet. Granite City should look at the numbers and follow what the Legends, KC Granite city is doing and see if things improve elsewhere. I really like the place and the food, but it really saddens me to see changes like this that could potentially cause the business to fail and the loss of one of my favorite places to eat for the last almost 20 years. PS The Salmon Oscar was my favorite menu item of all time. A nice juicy piece of salmon grilled with hollandaise and a little crab meat on top served with asparagus and rice (sub garlic mash). I used to order this twice one to eat and one to take...

Read moreAtmosphere was warm, the ac was not blasting so it was quite comfortable temperature wise. I sat at the bar where the music was not overly loud, the bartender who was going to serve me was named Bella. She was vibing pretty well as she was singing along with most the songs that came on. Her notes were on key, so maybe a future at AGT or American Idol, but for now lets get back to the food. atmosphere a 8.7
I ordered a coffee, the Asian glazed shrimp, Grilled salmon and carrot cake.
The coffee came out first and it was one of the worse coffees i have had in a long time. 3 out of 10. zero stars on their coffee.
next was the appetizer. IF you are not a fan of onions make sure to ask for no onions as they do add green onions as Garnish and its not listed on the menu. The shrimp tasted amazing. They are listed as being spicy and they did have a little kick. they were seasoned and salted just right. They had a light coleslaw blend in the middle which did offer some balance to that tangy taste offered in the Asian sauce. be forwarned the slaw does have cilantro mixed in and if your like me you don't want that soapy taste. But everyone is different and Cilantro does not taste like soap to everyone. overall I rate the Asian Glazed shrimp an 8.5.
Next came out the Grilled salmon. it came with Rice pilaf and asparagus.
The rice pilaf was cooked just right and tasted amazing. there was a mix of bell peppers on onions I note this for anyone with an allergy as its not listed on the menu. 10. the asparagus was a little cold but did have the right amount of crisp and taste. 7.5
the salmon was a little dry but was easily overcome with the lemon wedges provided. 8.8
Next onto dessert the carrot cake taste phenomenal, it came with a caramel glaze that you could use to dunk your carrot cake into and I fully did. It could use a slight bit more salt but otherwise I give it a 9.5 as everyone's taste buds are different.
the customer service received by bella was outstanding and the manager was quite friendly as well. overall minus a small hiccup with the menu and the kitchen I can say customer service was a hard 8.
The price per person averages to about 28.00 non child and that includes main course item, drink and...
