Dunn Lumber - Kirkland — Local services in Kirkland

This is the worst dunn lumber store I have ever been to. I am a general contractor and usually don't have time to pay attention to customer service or write reviews but my experience with the sales person Mario was something else. I came in for a simple return and he acted like he didn't want to help me right off the bat and acted as if I was wasting his time before I even said a word. He was extremely confrontational, aggressive, and continued to interupt me over and over for no reason at all while I tried to explain what I was returning. We went to my truck to look at what materials I had because apparently he didn't have the patience to listen or didn't believe me idk. He proceeded to remove his mask while we were face to face only to show me his face of how mad he was idk power move very weird...he asks me again if still want to do the return and that his shift is almost over and just wants to go home as if this was all some big joke to me. I just wanted my couple hundred dollars back for the extra materials I had on hand but hey I got this. People are great, no issues at all...the reason I gave it 3 stars is that they are selling hardwood by board foot and the way they calculate their wood is that they take 3/4 material and call it 1" which overall increases the board footage and price by 25 percent....not cool. Good that I checked as you should as well, if you are buying hardwood from Dunn Lumber. (Not trying to be mean to them, but a lumber yard that sells you 7 boardfoot bord that you bring home and it's 5 board foot is not cool..) The reasoning I was given is that they are buying it as a 1", because it took a 1" material to make 3/4" board. That makes zero sense.. It's like saying we are selling you 10 pounds of cheese as actual 5 pounds of cheese because it took 10 pounds of milk to make it...if you are selling material by a unit of measure you gotta stick to that unit otherwise it's a misrepresentation of the goods. Hard wood prices are crazy to begin with, so I just want to make sure everyone is being treated fairly....

I am amazed. a DIY dream. They might do most of business comercial during week. But during weekend they are proud to be homeowners themselves and very helpful. hardly anyone there. Because they dont sell plants, or garden stuff, Just good honest building materials. We thought we could get dimensinal lumber cheap, but Dunn's product is better grade, less twisted knotty. they help you pick through for the best (the contractors during the week dont care). they dont charge for cutting to size. they helped us figure our how to save money with better quality materails. Real live professionals that are open to DIY on weekends. although they did laugh at first when I tried to sound like I know what i needed, they cheerfully helped us find out what we really needed. We returned timbers with square corners to home depot for 1$ cheaper. And got nicer quality, with rounded finished corners, for just 1$ more. Well worth the extra buck and cheaper in...
