Rented an Airbnb and tried to get to the beach, but were turned away by the staff since we were short term renters (STR). They asked us to walk on the trail and access the lake from between the docks.
Anyhow when we got situated between two random docks off the trail, a lady from one of the beach villas came over with her pitbull, off the leash. It chased my mom who is terrified of dogs, so when we asked her to leash it, she went off on us, asking to see our ALA card.
The sense of entitlement was off the charts, presumably a normal behaviour for most ALA members who feel BnB'rs don't deserve access to the lake.
Anyways, we deescalated the situation and the rest of the time at the beach was relaxing.
The fact that the whole lake access is privatized, with no public access is just appalling. I don't know how this is allowed in CA, a warning to everyone on what happens with...
Read moreA sad leftover from the glory years. They burned down the good village 40 years ago--on purpose--and built this mess in its place. Overpriced tourist stores and lousy restaurants. Tried to be an outlet mall but all the stores left years ago. Rumor has it they're going to tear it down again and build condos. They NEVER should have destroyed the original Village--it had charm and character: a nice beach for swimming, suntan floats, a cool clock shop, Quantset hut rentals, a theater, a miniature golf course, a swinging dance spot, a great arcade, a classic vintage hotel, The Chalet restaurant, two great Snack Bars, and even the Swingin' Gym ride. This current Village has NOTHING. Burn it down again and leave the land vacant--that would be an...
Read moreThis was the worst experience ever. We understood the lake was private but we did not expect that anybody who had no property on the first line would not have access even to touch the water. This is not fun. Everything is closed and marked as private. No places on the water is free - just docks... However they have a trail which is located near the lake and is available for all association. So you have açcess to go between 2 types of fences - houses fences and dock fences. No place to swim except 2 really small and dirty areas where people would sit so close to each other with no other options even in COVID times. This lake should be removed from all advertisements about hiking, swimming and other type of vacation....
