I went to see about the people who flip stuff they buy at DI for a YouTube video. I filmed the carts and how people go into s frenzy when they come out. I didn’t film faces. It was seconds before a guy there flipped out. So I stopped immediately. Then a manager or someone got after me. He was very mean about it, even though I’d stopped. He said I could get kicked out and that it’s a policy that you can’t film at any Deseret Industries store. I can’t find that policy. Anyway, I’ve filmed at stores for years and haven’t had problems. They seemed to be hungry. The staff said things about people being greedy. They price things on the glass cases for more than you can buy them for new or eBay. Some of the workers are so rude, it’s surprising! It’s supposed to be run by my church. And the way they treated me was anything but Christian. I won’t go back. I’ve been going to DI for decades, all over the state. I’ve donated hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of things over the years and bought things. In other words, a loyal customer. I prefer to buy second hand for environmental and economic reasons. Especially in college. Now I donate more than I buy. I will choose other places to donate, definitely not at the Layton location. It seems cutthroat. So they probably do get people who are difficult. An interesting culture there for sure. I don’t know if they realize how much more they make because of the flippers who they seem to dislike. They are free to list and sell things online if that was their business model. But why hate on people who do this for a living, hobby or to get by? Or someone who finds it fascinating and wanted to try it for a day??

Hirum DJ were the best seriously they were so helpful and friendly I'm really grateful for people like this. If I had cash on me I would have given these guys a tip, they went above and beyond to help me feel welcome and have a smooth process for dropping off my second hand furniture. I feel like they're management should get an award for having best employees.

I love thrifting here! Today the store smelled really nice, like they had added fresheners, which was a great touch. Great variety in clothing, shoes, furniture, and more.

I had a bad experience there twice. One time, I went to the fitting room and I needed to bring inside of the fitting room my cart because I have a toddler and baby. After awhile, while I'm dressing, I was shocked because an employee tried to open my door while shaking it. He told me that I can't bring the cart with me. I was so shocked and nervous, I told him that I have 2 babies and he responded good and he walked away without saying sorry. I was just expecting some respect and politeness from the employee especially while I was dressing. I cried was shaking that time because I have had a bad experience (harassment) in the past. My second bad experience happened because of a false accusation. They sometimes have undercover police roam the store to crack down on shoplifting. While shopping, I noticed someone following me. I finished shopping, and I was confronted outside the store by an undercover cop. That evening, I decided to wear my boots that I had bought a year ago from the DI but I forgot to remove the tag. The cop noticed the tag on the bottom of the boots and thought that I had stole them. He asked me if I had a receipt but of course I didn't have it since I had bought them a year ago. I told him we had bought them a year ago and forgot to remove the tag and he could check the CCTV to verify I had walked in the store with them on. He asked my phone # and ID and then checked the CCTV and verified I was telling the truth. I was so annoyed because he treated me like a thief and he didn't even apologize for the false accusation! It wasn't very professional to accuse someone of stealing simply because a tag was on a piece of clothing or shoes. People forgot to remove tags all of the time. Next time, he should have evidence or actually witness a theft before...

Good night place, good deals. But if you find a deal too good, you get people being aggressive, literally ramming your cart trying to break the item, (in our case it wasn’t even for sale, we brought our friends hoverboard because it’s multiple miles away and we didn’t have enough bikes and the cashiers said it’s fine to bring it in) (it literally was a wide aisle and he was looking directly at us, while we were slowly walking and talking, and he literally starting running until our carts collide. Causing the hoverboard to hit the side, pretty hard, no damage was caused and the guy sarcastically said sorry.) We were really uncomfortable walking through the store. There still are some really good deals, therefore 4 stars is fair. Yes we are minors, and couldn’t take a car. We will be returning, but not as often. This happened around...
