I first off want to give a high five to this location for having delicious food, a great staff, and a clean restaurant. Kudos to Emma for going above and beyond her job duties to ensure a great experience. The only reason I didn't give a 5 on everything, which I wanted to do, was due to consistency. The first time I came here (dine in), the food was top notch. I felt like this was going to be my new favorite goto place to eat. The sauces were amazing, the fried chicken was delicious (rockbop), the noodles/ rice were hot and everything seemed fresh. I was hooked. I came back a second time and the girls working were so friendly, kind and helpful. However, the food was subpar on my togo order. There was a severe lack of sauce and the chicken was chewy. I went back with my food in hand to voice my concerns with the manager and immediately I was met with kindness, understanding and my food was made fresh for me. Great way to earn business and it tasted great. It made me want to comeback again. Later, I again came for a large togo order for 5 people. Got home and nothing was labeled. We had requested 3 different heat levels and we could not tell who's food was whoms. I called for help and they tried to explain to me that they look different for different heat levels, but they should be clearly labeled for guests to know and identify themselves. Again, the chicken was chewy and my noodles were rubbery, like they had sat out in open air too long. I really enjoy this place, but consistency and quality need to be the same each visit. If they cook the same quality way every time and better label their food moving forward, they have an amazing restaurant on their hands. I still am giving them a good rating for now and might come back to edit after another visit. Hopefully things...
Read moreA Korean-ish fast food joint. If you're hoping for authenticity, you may be disappointed.
My wife and I came here for lunch. I'd been avoiding Cupbop because...well, the pictures I'd seen don't really look like Korean food. I decided to give them a try, because you never know.
Walking in, the interior is pretty sparse. You get tables and hard metal chairs, with some outdoor seating. That's fine with me, just as long as the food is good. Walking up to see the menu, I see some familiar Korean and Japanese items (I was not expecting to see takoyaki here, but there you go). Having never been here, we shared a tonkotsu ramen bowl, gyoza, and a combo Bop bowl with bulgogi and Korean fried chicken.
They were...passable, barely. The gyoza tasted frozen, the ramen tasted like it was made that morning (tonkotsu broth takes a minimum of 24 and ideally 48 hours to make), and the Bop was covered in mayo/spicy mayo. Additionally, my chasu pork was just a big lump of fat with some meat on it. Chasu should not look like that, it's very unappetizing (picture attached after she removed about half of the fat on it). Our food was fine, but just fine.
I could see recommending Cupbop to someone wanting to step outside the box a little bit to see what else is out there without seeing too many foreign words on the menu, but authentic this is not. At least the prices are reasonable.
Now if you the reader made it this far, Korean options are a little scarce, but there is a generally tasty Korean restaurant in Clearfield called Kim Korean (and sushi) as of August 2021. For ramen specifically, Osaka (the better, slightly more expensive option) in Layton and Haru Ramen in Clearfield/Layton are much better...
Read moreI love Cupbop and definitely eat there more often than I should. The food is always delicious and prepared quickly, and for the most part the service has been lovely. My only issue has been with one employee, the Assistant Manager, whose name I believe is Penelope. She’s taken my order three times there and was very unpleasant for each one. My most recent visit was last night. I stood in line looking at the menu while she leaned against the back counter. When I finally looked at her to signal I was ready she sighed, pushed herself off the counter, and without looking at me asks “What can I get for you?”. After ordering I say thank you and she says nothing. She doesn’t ask if I want my receipt and, feeling uncomfortable, I don’t ask for it. I sit to wait for my order and she eventually brings it over, places it on the table as she’s already turning to walk away, again not acknowledging me when I try to thank her. She walked away so fast that she didn’t even care to pick up my table marker. I let it slide the first time she helped me because I felt bad and figured she was having a rough day, but to be that way every time is unacceptable, and even less so coming from an...
