First of all let's state the obvious: the Einstein chain isn't in the same league with Starbucks and Panera (and probably never will be). I would never set foot in this place if either of those other franchises had an outlet within walking distance. With that said, this specific Einstein doesn't compare well with other Einsteins.
I see lots of ingenious things here in Utah. For example the innovative freeway interchanges up here in the Provo-SLC-Ogden area. However, for customers like myself who simply want a coffee and a bagel, the two-stage checkout line at this Einstein---together with the duties evidently assigned to the people manning them---is downright stupid. Ironic that it exists in a place with the name "Einstein."
My time is valuable. After already enduring the stupid two-stage line and completing my payment, the last thing I'm in the mood to do is continue to wait needlessly for an employee to spend the ten seconds it will take to toss a bagel into a bag and hand me my empty coffee cup. Having instead to watch clueless employees---including the one that just took your payment---scurry about dealing with far more time-consuming orders in front of you while you stand there twiddling your thumbs---yes, I will stand right there at the register in that situation, refusing to budge---is annoying as hell.
There is plenty more room for annoyance with the stupid queuing system they have here.
The line was relatively long this morning. The guy taking the orders deals with the five or six customers in front of me, one by one, until I arrive. When I get there, he suddenly disappears, off making coffees for people. All the while, there is a long line behind me while I stand there waiting for him to return.
After standing there for at least 60 seconds (probably 90 or more), with the line at the register having now thinned down to just one remaining customer, get this: the woman at the register motions to some customers standing behind me in line to walk over to her for whatever transactions it was they were waiting for!
This should never happen. I don't care what the reason was. Even if there was some justification for it, for all I know, it's sanctioned line-cutting.
To his credit, when the guy making the coffees finally came rushing back to the ordering counter and took my order, he did at least hand me my bagel on the spot.
But---almost as if on cue---as soon as I reach the register counter, the woman manning it suddenly disappears! She goes back and makes a coffee for someone while I stand there twiddling my thumbs again!
Worse still, when she finishes that and hands the coffee to the waiting customer, instead of immediately taking my payment and handing me an empty coffee cup, she goes back and spends about 30 more seconds doing some routine maintenance in the area where she made the coffee!
I'd give the place two stars for their private bathrooms---the one thing they do better than Panera---but considering just how bad the two-stage line and poorly instructed employees are here, I simply can't help but slam it...
Read moreI walked over to Einstein Bagels for some breakfast as I was visiting Layton Utah again. I placed my order at the end of the counter for two bagels and a coffee. I went down the counter picked up some cream cheese went to the register pay for my order placed the tip and received my coffee I asked about the two bagels and was told that they would be brought to me. I watched everybody in the restaurant be served even people who came in after me and I was completely and entirely ignored. I asked a small blonde headed girl if my order had been lost and she said that she would go look and when she found it it had been lost and she immediately brought me my two Bagels in a paper sack. I said I don't understand how something so simple could have been overlooked she turned around and out of the back of her head said sorry! There was no confession made no offering nothing sincere for their ineptitude and inability to be professional. I don't understand how a profession so simple could be so complicated as to lose an order so simple as well. I see on the Better Business Bureau website that they have a C- rating I also placed this review on the Better Business Bureau website as well. So I was standing by myself in a restaurant with no one else around and nobody stopped to ask if I had been taken care of and if I was alright in regards to my order. This company and its staff does not care I don't know if it was some type of prejudice towards me on a personal level that I do not know about I have no idea if they're just completely stupid!
After receiving a response from the owner, I did as suggested. No response in a week. They are liars. F rating...
Read moreI eat here all the time. Sometimes the service is great, other times they are pretty apathetic. Today I went to order a farmhouse bagel and they asked what bagel to use. In the dozens of times I’ve ordered this sandwich, I’d never been asked this, so I really don’t know what bagel it goes on. I said just the bagel it usually goes on and before I could even finish the sentence the guy cut me off and pointed saying “this is what we have dude”. I tried to ask what it normally comes on and again he cut me off, raising his voice saying this is all they had. I was kind of shocked at how blatantly rude he was being and responded in kind. I asked why he didn’t know what it came on and he rolled his eyes and said it’s been a rough fist. His coworker stepped instead of being helpful he joined in saying “this is all we have” over and over. I lost my temper and yelled at them and walked out. I am not proud of how I responded, but I’ve never been treated like that before. I worked in retail and fast food, so I get it that some days are rough and people can be awful, but a little corporate training on how to treat people would go a long way. I came walked in with a good mood and a smile on my face, and walked out 2 minutes later cussing out the employees....
