Pretty old YMCA with out of date equipment. The 3 times I have been there I have had 2 bad experiences with the staff working the front desk. On those 2 occasions I asked the girls at the front desk information about the swimming programs that they offer. Which I found out that they don't offer any youth swim programs there. The girl on this occasion was very short and rude when she was speaking to me. On the second occasion I went there to drop off the necessary forms needed to enroll my 2 sons in their youth Soccer Program. I didn't have one of the necessary forms. I had accidentally overlooked this because there is a lot of information to fill out on the Soccer enrollment forms. The girl at the front desk at the time when I dropped off the forms was also extremely rude as well as she treated me like I was an inconvenience and an idiot for not having all of the necessary forms. The third time that I went back there to drop off the form that I was missing when I dropped off the initial forms the girl at the front desk was the complete opposite. She was very friendly and she seemed happy to be there unlike the first 2 girls. I will say this though. All 3 of the girls had little to no information regarding the Youth Soccer Program as well as when someone would be reaching out to me regarding the status of my 2 Youth Soccer Program applications. So at this point I kinda feel in the dark about what the next step is in getting my 2 sons in the Soccer Program that is starting in June 2023. Both of my sons really need and want to participate in this program. Not only is extracoricular after school programs healthy for children emotional and physically but it's also a great way to build good self esteems. Hopefully it works out. The administrative staff at the YMCA in Los Alamos needs to educate their staff on all their programs that they are offering. I believe that if this type of customer service continues there people interested in either a membership there or programs they offer are going to go...
Read moreA staff member was extremely rude and not understanding of accidents and masks slipping when you workout. I was mid-way through my set of weighted chin-ups when my mask fell below my nose. Before I had a chance to finish my last few reps or even get off the bar to pull my mask up, she came right up to me and started being very hostile towards me saying that it was, "Absolutely unacceptable" that I did not immediately pull my mask up when I was in the middle of a rep. Which is difficult to do mid-rep on a pull-up bar. After I told her I understood and was just finishing my last rep, she continued to say it was unacceptable and act hostile towards me. I proceeded to tell her that I was pulling it up as soon as I finished my last rep (I had already pulled my mask up once she started to yell at me). These sort of accidents happen while working out, and to not be understanding of that and to attempt to chastise me is extremely inconsiderate. I pulled my mask up right away after I was off the bar too. I cancelled my membership and will never go back. The rest of the staff was helpful and...
Read moreNot sure why this is rated so highly. We came from Kansas City and our YMCA there was cheaper and way nicer. I guess expectations are lower up here. We have been members of this YMCA for months and it’s time to quit. We had our kids signed up for rock climbing, which was fun, but the instructors didn’t even really help get the kids ready. I would describe the instructors as aloof. Today, we went to enjoy the “free” babysitting, but they wouldn’t watch our 8-year-old because the kids club hadn’t started. They said he could come with us to work out. Not true. The cardio room age is a minimum of 10 years old. We were not happy and it was the final straw. We cancelled our membership today. The problem is that the YMCA has no competition, so it can smell like feet and have nasty, old locker rooms and still get 4.5 stars. I wish a real gym would buy the old Smith's and just blow the YMCA out of the water. I just don’t understand were the membership fees go as the facility has not been...
