My hair stylist of almost ten years moved away suddenly. I waited until the last minute and needed a quick cut before my nephew's graduation. A friend recommended Chris at Circa 33. He has amazing reviews and good work on his Instagram, but he was booked solid, so I made an appointment with Jose. All seemed fine until the point I was in the chair and an earlier client called the shop to complain about their haircut. They wanted to come back and have someone other than Jose fix it, which offended Jose. I know all of this because the shop owner and Jose discussed it while I was having my hair cut, which was awkward and a little uncomfortable. Jose was pretty upset and complained about his other client for a solid ten minutes, acted flustered and started cutting my hair really roughly. At one point, I felt a pinch and said "ouch." Jose remarked I had sensitive skin. I couldn't see anything in the mirror he gave me to check, so I assumed everything was fine and left after my cut. On the drive home, I felt a wetness on my neck, it turned out to be a bit of blood. Apparently, I was nicked with the clippers. Again, not a big deal, I understand things happen and people have bad days. When I got home however, I saw that my hairline in the back was cut at a pretty severe angle. Not only was my skin broken, but the back of my neck was mangled by the clippers. I'm almost 40 years old and I've never left a haircut bleeding, with such an uneven hairline in the back, or had a stylist take out their frustrations about another client out on me. A hat isn't going to cover this..now I have to go to a graduation and work for the next few weeks looking like this. I’m pretty mad a professional would let someone walk out of their shop looking like this. Beyond the damage, I brought a photo of a haircut the shop did and what I received isn't even close to what I asked for. To be fair, the shop owner, Chris, was really nice about it and offered to have me come back and see another barber, but after they way Jose talked about his last unhappy client in front of me I wouldn't feel comfortable. I'm not a review person, I'm pretty easy going and I don't usually complain, but this was not a...
Read moreI had an incredibly disappointing experience at this salon. From start to finish, the service was unprofessional, rushed, and far from acceptable. I showed the stylist exactly how I wanted my haircut, but he cut way too much, completely ignoring my instructions. It felt like he was more concerned with getting the job done quickly rather than delivering quality work.
The shampooing process was equally unpleasant. The water started cold, then turned warm, and eventually became too hot. On top of that, water splashed onto my face multiple times, making the whole experience uncomfortable and messy. It was clear that there was little care or attention being given.
The haircut tools were also a big issue – they were poorly maintained and caused pain multiple times. The stylist hurt my head and even grazed my ear. When I mentioned that it was hurting, he dismissively said, “That’s fine, not bleeding.” It was shocking to see such a lack of professionalism and disregard for customer comfort. I would strongly suggest they replace their tools and improve their standards.
To make matters worse, the stylist’s next appointment arrived while he was still working on my haircut. At that point, he became visibly impatient and rushed through the rest of the session. He even removed my robe and told me we were done, only to realize he had forgotten to clean up and trim the back of my head. This lack of attention to detail was frustrating and unacceptable.
Finally, the experience ended on a rude note. When I went to pay, the staff member threw my card onto the desk instead of handing it back politely. This unnecessary gesture summed up the overall lack of professionalism and respect during my visit.
I would not recommend this salon to anyone. The service was rushed, careless, and unprofessional, with poor tools and a rude attitude. Save yourself the frustration and look elsewhere for a...
Read moreWe all try to stay loyal to our lady or fella. But there is one person you have GOT to stay loyal to and that is your BARBER. After moving way across town months back I had to move on and started easy: closest barber shop: Circa 33. Next available appt: Tony.
As it turns out the shop is dope AF. Clean, friendly vibes, good music, spacious. Reasonable prices. Also as it turns out, I got lucky and found my new LTB (Long Term Barber). TONY. Dope dude, dope cuts. He is professional, obviously experienced, chill, and made a couple recs I took that made sense. In summary:
Make Circa 33 your shop Make Tony your LTB Get the raise, get the girl/boy you want, buy that house in the hills. Cause you will look so fresh NO ONE will be able to stop you.
Also lowkey: Tony has the best voice in LA. If you produce records go get a haircut here. He'll do whatever your flavor of the week (ft. flavor of the month) does better than they do without autotune. When the right track drops, as it always does, Tony takes the show. And he'll look fly and fresh while he does it, if he can make me look good you know he's got...
