The Hollywood Studio Club was a chaperoned dormitory for young women involved in the motion picture business from 1916 to 1975. Located in the heart of Hollywood, the Studio Club was run by the YWCA and housed some 10,000 women during its 59-year existence. It was the home at various times to many Hollywood celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe, Ayn Rand, Donna Reed, Kim Novak, Maureen O'Sullivan, Rita Moreno, Barbara Eden, and Sharon Tate. The building was designed in the Italian Renaissance Revival architectural style by noted California architect Julia Morgan, who also designed Hearst Castle. The Studio Club closed in 1975. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and remains the property of the YWCA Greater Los Angeles....
Read moreWhatever it was before, it's now reflection of the failure of the Mayor's office and any agency that's turned it into a temporary housing shelter for women. It's no wonder even Koreatown residence didn't let temporary housing like this into it's neighborhood. It's poorly run, the residents are constantly loitering outside, playing loud music, being loud and fighting at all times of the day and night. FOR HOURS. Police and ambulances are constantly being called. This is my neighborhood and what was once a relatively safe space, has now become a degenerate dumpster fire. I'm all for helping the homeless, but this place has zero guardrails. The residents do not have any respect for their neighbors, and are a nuisance on all levels. Good job...
Read moreThe basics are good. The execution is terrible. It's a good shelter in terms of conditions: two people in one small room. But the staff is simply terrible; no one does their job, they don't care about their own rules, and they don't regulate noise levels anywhere. They love to be the center of attention: they demand mandatory meetings for program participation, and then when you show up, they say they don't have time for several months.
