Modern Rebel Barbershop — Local services in Los Angeles

I'm visiting from out of town and hadn't had time to get my hair cut before I left, so I took a leap of faith and did a Google search. I found Modern Rebel and decided to give it a go after the owner/stylist, Trevor said he could fit me in before his next appointment.

The shop is located in Salon Republic, a business that houses many other salons, but it's right behind Veggie Grill and was so easy to find. Trevor's salon's name is an homage to the late, great David Bowie and the inclusiveness of people from all walks of life that the artist inspired. There's even a small sign on Trevor's mirror that hits all the points near and dear to my heart: "Love is Love", "Black Lives Matter", etc.

Trevor made sure I got exactly what I wanted by educating me on the options of clipper blades he could use while also making suggestions of his own which I fully trusted. He also gave me drink options to choose from to which I decided on a bottled water (I hate open cups of water at salons, it's like asking to drink hair). As he buzzed away at my bald head, he told me about his family and we had such a great and effortless conversation. I requested two little 80's-esque lines be shaved in, and he went the extra mile by using a straight edge blade to ensure the design last as long as possible. No stylist has EVER done that for me.

By the end of the cut, I knew I'd found my go-to LA stylist, and was actually wishing that he was based in NYC so I could see him on a regular basis. I can't recommend Modern Rebel Salon enough, stop reading this review...

Modern Rebel Barbershop is fantastic!

Trevor has been my barber since I moved back to LA in January 2022. After reading great reviews on multiple platforms, I booked a visit. I knew within the first 10 minutes of sitting in his chair that I wouldn't need to try another barber. His goal is to give you a great haircut so you can leave the shop looking good & feeling good. I've had only great experiences. It's always nice to hear from friends/family "nice haircut!" after a visit to Modern Rebel.

Trevor takes his craft seriously. Explains what & why he's doing what he's doing for your hair. He tailors your haircut to best suit you. This is definitely not a one cut fits all sorta place. Know that you'll leave with the look you want.

The shop is in a great location with easy parking in the lot for no cost. Always clean & tidy with a relaxed vibe. Capes & towels are always fresh. Great range of products at affordable prices. First class service that's well worth the cost. Book a couple weeks ahead because appointment times can get filled quickly.

Trevor is a great barber, and even better guy. Bright, funny, kind, and always looking for ways to give back to the community. Easy person to root for and want to support.

Highly recommend Trevor, and the team he's building at Modern...

Too long didn’t read: He’s the best I’ve ever been to, if you want to look sharp go see him

I’m a dude in his 30s, so I’ve been getting my haircut for a decent amount of time, and I actually give some fs about how I look. Given that context I can say Trevor is by far the best barber I have ever been too. An old roommate recommended him to me years ago and I’ve been a regular since.

Trevor simply doesn’t cut hair. He gets to know what you want, he assesses the pattern your hair grows in, and then he gives you your own personal haircut. I have really thick hair, and it grows in like a chia pet. My hair is hard to cut. I have generally been dissatisfied with my haircuts up until I met Trevor (remember I’m in my 30s, that’s a lot of cuts). Every Once in a while I’d be able to get a good haircut, but something was almost always off, especially the shape. I have loved every single haircut I’ve gotten from Trevor. Everyone. Again, he’s the best. He even plans out how the hair will grow in and how your hair will look in a couple of weeks. I’m not exaggerating. He’s a smart dude.

On top of his barber skills, he has excellent customer service. He’ll offer you all sorts of refreshments. He’s a super nice, friendly, smart dude. If he wasn’t married with a family I’d introduce him...
