Not to be a total Karen about the Nintendo switch 2 release last night but it was truly so disorganized and it was laughable at how poorly informed the employees were.
You might have seen another review about the event, this person was allowed by GameStop employees to cut about 200 people. Absolutely rude and inconsiderate, there was literally an elderly man with a cane who was near us who had to wait several hours but she just got to cut the line. Another man also tried cutting the line and it wasn't until other customers stood together to call this man out that the employees did anything.
It's completely understandable for there to be long wait times, it's understandable that there are certain procedures for staff to follow for a console release. But to have 1 manager pick all merchandise for each order 1 by one from one open box at a time while a staff member holds the door (get a door holder) and another staff sits in the back just watching, and another two other staff at the registers also just standing there (again this was after 12am so they had already checked everyone in so no further purchases were being made).
It took over an hour for them to give 25 people their order. And due to the incredibly long wait I asked if I could simply come back tomorrow and I was pretty bluntly told that I would forfeit my preorder (which I had paid entirely) if I were to come back tomorrow. I didn't even get my switch 2 until after midnight so not sure how that makes any sense.
Employees were constantly relating false information, as a man outside said that we COULD come back tomorrow and pick up our preorder. Also they kept telling people the wait would be short and upwards of just an hour wait (even after 1.5 wait passed).
I actually burst out laughing as an employee responded to the complaints of the poor organization and slow moving line with "we're moving as fast as humanly possible" and no joke did not move from his spot for 10 minutes.
Y'all did not prep well enough for an event like this. GameStop had made posts about having free red bulls for customers in line (I did not know this until I had been waiting for over an hour) and when someone asked they said "no we're not doing that"
I had other friends at other GameStop locations with over 200 people who ALL got their preorders within an HOUR. Why did it take this location over THREE HOURS. Y'all were really slacking it was quite sad how disorganized everyone was.
I understand that being located inside the mall made things confusing but that should have been figured out with security far in advance. Preorders started in APRIL. More than enough time to figure out staffing and a game plan for a console release.
I don't shop at GameStop ever cuz why would why, except for an in person midnight console release, but this did not entice me to ever come back. Truly some of the poorest management and work efficiency I've seen in a long time. Hate sounding like a Karen but coming from someone with food service, retail, customer service, and social work background this was sad.
Happy with my switch 2 tho! Thanks Nintendo, it was great to speak to one of the Nintendo employees who came to hang...

Thanks again, GameStop
worst experience, ever. So i happened to get lucky and fortuitously joined the line at the Alderwood Mall GameStop in Lynnwood, WA while they were taking orders for the PS5. I wanted to know what I was buying, so I asked the individual directing me to the line (I know his name, but I'll withhold it since he's not the problem) what is included in the bundle. He told me the console, extra controller, year subscription to ps plus, and the new spider man game. Cool. So after waiting 20-ish minutes, I get to the front of the line and am able to order the bundle. I asked the individual ordering the bundle for me again what was included just to be sure I'm not paying for anything else. Same, console, extra controller, year subscription, and spider man game. Cool. Pay for the bundle, but the receipt they give me is just a dollar amount and doesn't include details. Weird. Also, my math is pretty good, so I notice that it's a little more expensive than I thought. Again, weird. Fast forward five days, I finally get an email from GameStop with the purchase order. Interestingly enough, there's a charge for extra insurance that I didn't approve. So I call the Alderwood Mall GameStop and ask to speak to the manager. This condescending, absolute piece of trash, tells me it's in MY best interest to take the extra insurance and refuses to refund me the insurance I didn't want. He claimed that the insurance was part of the bundle and cannot refund me the amount for the insurance. He berates me for being a waste of time since he has a house full of customers and I'm out of luck, even if I call customer service. So I try to call customer service. Holy 48 minutes wait. I finally get connected to someone and they hang up on me. Ok, I'll send an email. Sent a message on December 23rd. Still no response. I'll probably spend my money elsewhere in the future....no wonder why...
Read moreI called ahead to this location before the prismatic evolutions drop. Unlike other stores, the employee (a man) I connected with communicated they were getting A TON OF prismatic product in. When I asked him for clarification that there’d be more than 10 etbs available he replied, “oh yeah, you should be good”
Fast toward to 1/17, 80ish people lined up excited to get their hands on a PE product. I was roughly 13th in line and arrived right when the mall opened. The man running the store was stoked about the huge line outside his store, and began taking photos. There weren’t any communications on availability so I approached the front and asked him again exactly how many etbs they had available: he responded “tons! My partner and I are just trying to count them all right now” suggesting that there was such a large shipment (10:12am). 40+ minutes pass with no information. Just before doors open, he comes out and counts off 8 people and says “that’s it! We only got 8 prismatic evolution etbs in.” He communicates there are 4 other small things and then turns everyone else away.
I still can’t figure out why this guy couldn’t tell us ahead of time the quantity he was getting in, and why he’d mislead me and other people multiple times. His focus was on all the attention his store was getting and not on the customers and making sure they had the right information....
