OK, folks, don't anyone spill the beans to B, but I came up with a cute idea for a Valentine's day card for her. I got some reference art from the internet, drew some sample sketches and then went to my giant box of craft stuff. I don't know how it happened, but I didn't have anything that I needed. Not a problem, I like shopping for craft supplies. Alas, it was snowing and the closest shop was closed. The next closest shop proudly advocates different principles from mine. So, I went to Google and found that there is a Michael's close enough to drive to. I hopped in the car and headed out. I'm glad I have Maps on my phone. Without it, I wouldn't have found the place. It doesn't face any road and I couldn't find any signs pointing the way. I followed a giant truck into the parking lot where it used up many of the spots. I found another one and carefully made my way through the snow to the door. Like many Michael's, the store was huge. One other customer and I had the whole space to ourselves. There was at least one person working there who appeared and disappeared from time to time. I got a good look at everything in the store while I searched for the items on my list. Like any craft project, I had to revise it in my mind a few times to make use of what I could find. There was a good selection, so it wasn't too hard. The prices were far from bargains, but B is worth spending a bit more on. The other customer and I kept our purchases to just what we needed to stay within our budgets. I am curious about Cricut tools, but who has that kind of money? I took my small handful of necessary items to the front where my only option for paying was to use the self service kiosk. I zapped my items with the laser gun and tapped my card to pay. The employee showed up to say good-bye as I walked...

Read moreI go to Michael's for very specific reasons.
I need a very random crafting supplies about 1-3 times a year.
I need to decorate my house but apparently the good decorations are considered "Halloween supplies" and normal stores "don't have them all year round".
So I go to Michael's because it's the end of August and thanks to capitalism I can buy Halloween decorations now. I hear they put up this year's display and drag my equally excited boyfriend down all the autumnal and spooky aisles two times over. In my excitement I buy like $80 worth of decor (that's really worth like $50, again thanks capitalism) and realize as I go to check out I left all the coupons Michael's religiously mails me every other week. No worries though! The god Michael is merciful and there's a sale that day. The cashier is a doll and comes in clutch with the coupon I forgot. The total? $32 on what is labelled as $80 worth of stuff and some cute pumpkin washi tape to boot.
This Michael's was clean and the employees were friendly. They didn't judge me for audibly laughing at the "more boos" and "cheers witches" wine glasses they had. (Past tense. I bought them.) The cashier was funny and saved my life with coupons. They weren't busy and I didn't feel rushed when I took an extra minute to look at the impulse washi tape bin at checkout, since no one...
